Hi there,

I've just bought a Toshiba 32MW7DB widescreen TV, and have a bit of a
problem with the Sky Digital remote.

I've tried various codes from the manual, and there are three or four
codes that seem to work. However, I find that some of the number
buttons (3, 5 and 7 if memory serves), do not work in "TV mode" (e.g.
when using teletext or to switch channels). Everything else works
absolutely fine - all the number buttons work when switching channels
on the digibox, for example - and the remote control for the TV works
with no problem. Also, the remote worked fine with my old Sony TV.

A colleague at work has the same TV, and his remote works OK -
unfortunately, the engineer that fitted his system didn't leave details
of what code was used to set up the remote.

Does anyone know the right code for this TV?

Cheers,
Bert

My parents have one of these TVs and like my own Tosh 48PJ6DB you have to
"modify" the Toshiba code as detailed in the instructions manual supplied with
your digibox. The basic code itself will not work properly with your TV.

I can't remember the details off hand so I suggect you checkout your manual.
If you don't have one I'll scan in the relevant section for you. (both Amstrad
and Panasonic manuals have the same instructions)

Thanks for your reply, Ian. My girlfriend has "tidied up" the manual,
which obviously means I can't find it anywhere! I am working off a list
of codes given to me by the installer (I was still waiting for the TV
at installation time). Four of these codes have the same effect - most
functions work, but some of the numeric keys don't...the other two
don't work at all.

I'd be eternally grateful if you could transcribe or scan the relevant
pages from the manual. My real e-mail address is
be...@carobert.globalnet.co.uk.

Thanks once again.

Best regards,
Roberto

Guy,

Thanks. 536 is what I'm using at the moment. Mostly it works, but some
of the number keys don't. I'm starting to think something strange is
going on...

I have a card from Sky at home with the complete set of three digit
codes for all make/model combinations, it is about six months old
so there may be some updates, but I'll bring it into work tomorrow
if I can find it and post all of the Toshiba codes.

It took me a few goes to find one that worked almost everything.

If some of the number keys don't work it could be that they have
somehow got individual sequences into them. Try the following:

TV
SELECT+YELLOW, wait until light blinks twice
994
Broken digit key
Broken digit key, light blinks twice

This should reset the key to its original state

Whilst working out how to reprogram individual keys on the remote
I managed to break some of the digit keys.

Are the number keys that don't work all odd or all even by
any chance? The Toshiba seems to have the number keys split
into two separate groups.

Guy,

You are a star. Somehow the keys 3,4 and 0 had been re-programmed.
Personally, I reckon the cat did it...

I suppose I should have had a bit more of a play, and worked out the
"unprogramming" sequence on my own (I am supposed to be a programmer
after all!). Perhaps this should be mentioned in the section of the FAQ
that deals with reprogramming the remote.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Ah. When I wrote that I hadn't found a way of unprogramming
keys. For a while I had the "5" key on my remote programmed
to generate "5" after a slip stuck a "6" on top. Now it just
generates the native sequence for the key.

I'll email James to get him to update the thing on the FAQ.

If you haven't gone through the game of generating a complete
set of key numbers for the Toshiba keys, the following might come in
useful in combination with the battleships grid:

12 Menu
13 16:9
15 Bass Boost
16 Text Hold
1A Blue button
1B Green button

30 CH-
31 Menu down
32 CH+
33 Menu up
34 Teletext/TV
35 Text Time
36 Nicam mode
37 Preset brightness
38 Surround mode
39 Text double height
3A -/--
3B 9
3C 7
3D 5
3E 3
3F 1

DA Yellow button
DB Red button

F0 Volume -
F1 Sound settings
F2 Volume +
F3 Picture settings
F4 Call
F5 AV input select
F6 On/Off
F7 Sound mute
FB 8
FC 6
FD 4
FE 2
FF 0

Somehow they got lost in the conversion from my original long
and rambling document and the summary in the FAQ.

As your problem has been answered I wont comment on it but a little tip for
this TV.

You may notice a picture shift of about 1.5 inches to the side when
switching to skydigital (RGB).

This can rectified by changing one of the options in the TV's menu. Make
sure sky is on and displayed in the screen. Press Menu, choose set-up and
change it from AUTO or PAL to NTSC358.

This will save you many headaches trying to get the picture to fit.

David,

Thanks. I'd already done this thanks to posts in this newsgroup. I had
the same problem on my old TV (a 15" Sony portable!), but there was no
workaround.
