The Disccovery Kids/Wings channel is to be replaced by The Discovery
Channel, before the end of the month. My friend tried to cancel their
contract, but were told that Discovery was laucnching soon to try and keep
them subscribing.

This was later confirmed by 3 different Customer Service agents.

Has also been confirmed on the ONdigital mailing list as starting on the
17th Oct.

Here's the press release:

For immediate release
12 October 2001

Discovery Channel joins ITV Digital

Discovery Channel, one of the premier brands in multichannel TV, is to
join
the ITV line up of primary channels from November 18th.

Discovery is the world's foremost provider of factual programming,
encompassing documentaries and reality based entertainment programming.
When
it goes live on the ITV Digital platform, viewers will be able to look
forward
to programmes such as Mastermind, Britain's most popular television quiz
which
returns with Clive Anderson in the famous black chair, and the
thought-provoking Filmreal season which showcases the very best of
documentary
feature film making from around the world.

Rob Fyfe, ITV Digital's Managing Director said:

"We're delighted that Discovery Channel is at last joining the ITV
Digital
line up. It's one of the great brands of TV all over the world and it
significantly strengthens our channel offering. We - and, more
important, our
customers - have always wanted Discovery Channel itself on our
platform".

Joyce Taylor, Managing Director of Discovery Networks Europe said:

"We are very pleased indeed to add ITV Digital to our Discovery Channel
subscriber base as it has always been our philosophy to have our
flagship
brand on every distribution platform where possible. The agreement we
have
reached today with ITV Digital has made that possible and we look
forward to
working with them in enhancing their programming line-up".

Discovery Channel will join Discovery Kids and Wings on the ITV Digital

November.

Aye... seems pretty certain, thought you might of been relying on salesmen
for the info, who always tell the truth :)

WHAT!! someone actually watches that waste of bandwidth called wings. 'next we
have a programmme about planes. Following that is a show about winged craft.
after that we a special feature about....planes!!!' ffs.

Discovery contains programs about all sorts of interesting stuff, and
non-interesting (i.e. planes).

It's a sad statement of fact that the idiots kicking a bladder around a
field make programs like Wings possible. Sadly Wings and all the
"speciality" channels put together wouldnt generate anywhere near as much
revenue as ITV Sport

Err, let's compare now with a year ago. 12 months back, the football was
free and we had Wings. Now we have to pay for the football and there's no
Wings. Looks to me like Wings actually paid for the football. There was a
report on the radio today that ITV's shareholders want to drop ITVD as the
expected football revenue just isn't happening.
When I bought my IDTV, one of the reasons was to watch the Champions League
matches but this season I've got to pay extra for them, guess who won't be
renewing when the 12 months is up (I call it 12 months but it will actually
be 21 due to OD's disorganisation).
