The Choice of Watches
The exposition of the Chopard museum consists of the main watch and high jewelry art models, old instruments and equipment. Everything is very detailed - in such a way that it is even possible to see Chopard fake pieces. There is the entire showcase devoted to them in the museum.
The company's leaders add a jewelry piece or a watch piece to the museum collections that they think has all chances to be very important for the company. Unfortunately they didn't practice it before. Now they try to find some rare pieces from old Chopard watch collections and buy them out from private collections.
Museum's History
The museum, created not so long ago, is called L.U.C.EUM. Its name comes from its line's name - L.U.C. is an abbreviation composed of the first letters of the company's founder - Louis Ulysse Chopard's name who established his own watch making business in 1860.
In 1963 Karl Scheufele bought the brand Chopard. Since that time Scheufele family is the only owner of the company.
Museum's Structure
The museum has its own structure - the exposition is not linear and strictly historical as it is accepted among conservative watch makers - it is mixed.
Everything is divided into subjects - this way it is possible to see watch mechanisms and watches from different époques in every section.
The subjects the exhibits are divided into are the following:
- watches for travelers
- astronomy watches
- sea chronometers
- tourbillions
- watches for speed measurement
- watches with enamel, engraving
- pocket watches etc.
Remarkable Exhibits
Every historical section comments upon modern watches of L.U.C. line created for the last years at the manufacture.
For instance, there is a model MGT in the section "watches for travelers" with two time zones.
Astronomy section has another version of L.U.C - L.U.C. Lunar One, with Moon phases.
The first watches with tourbillions are found side by side with a modern tourbillion L.U.C. 4T Quattro Tourbillon. For 10 years 12 L.U.C. models have been elaborated there and for every model watch makers certainly have invented a new caliber - these are the rules of manufacture production.
Novelty Chronograph
A very important event took place not so long time ago - a new watch series L.U.C. Chrono One was presented.
It is the first chronograph in the collection and a caliber that was called L.U.C. 10 CF.
For the first time such a caliber was presented in April 2005 in Basel. Initially it was called GT-3 in honor of a Porsche race car.
The new watch has fly-back function and the case is made of white gold.
