Need help.

I have a Peugeot Jan 2011 308SW Sport, anyone got one or maybe just a
Peugeot help me with my RDS settings please.
When I leave home tuned to my local BBC radio station and drive a long way
and pass into another area it does not change to the new areas local
station.
I also not getting Traffic announcements from other BBC stations
interrupting.
The terminology on the Menus not registering with me, I'm a bit lost looking
at the manual too.
Thanks
David

For autoswitching, I don't know if RDS _does_ do switching between local
stations; I know it will switch from, say, one R4 transmitter to
another, but not if it does switching between _different_ local
stations.

Good point that having never listened to BBC local radio for long enough
on long journeys. I don't think it does or will.

After all it is likely to switch between transmitters in marginal areas
and whilst on the national services the same prog is being carried so it
won't notice, with Local radio it will...

My previous car when tuned to Radio Leeds if going on the M62 west as I went
over the top would changed to R. Lancs.
If going east change to R. Humberside or R. York.

This stays with R. Leeds and finishes with nothing.

Traffic announcements on Radio 2 would interrupt.

Does this set have Enhanced Other Network (EON)?

> Traffic announcements on Radio 2 would interrupt.

Didn't think TA worked that way round. Local stations interupting any
other source but not national stations interupting unless tuned in
but listening to CD/Cassette etc.

Found the TA on/off.
Wasn't on the main Menus but the option came if I pressed OK when tuned to
my local BBC station.
Thank you all for the help.

BBC national stations don't raise TA and therefore don't interrupt anything.

Careful, you will upset anyone from BBC Glasgow (or Cardiff) with that
statement. They like to think of Radio Scotland as a national station!

Your RDS radio may auto-follow BBC local stations if you switch the
REGional function. How/if you can do that on your particular set I will
have to leave for you to discover.

Since I went into the individual setting of button 3, my local BBC radio and
set the TA and Radio Text on when tuned to Radio 2 last night twice local
stations broke in.
I'm not sure on the Regional Activate/Inactivate I will have to wait until I
do a run out of this area tuned to my local BBC station and see if it
changes to others along the way. If it does all is well, if not on return
journey will reverse that setting.
It is a shame non of you driving Peugeot, guess non of you like the French,

I've got a Peugeot, 2008 407. Its radio seems more user friendly than yours
though. For starters it has a front panel, TA button.

The menus for setting REG on and off, are rather non intuitive though.

The BBC changed their RDS PI codes on local radio a couple of years ago,
deliberately to prevent the switching to an alternative BBC Local station,
should you drive out of the area.

I used to press my BBC Berks preset when in Essex, and get BBC Essex instantly.
That no longer happens.

This BBC FAQ explains why (sort of !)

Peugeot have problems with TA on their latest models. I have a new 508 and at first the traffic information would not work until a software update was done but 6 months down the line the traffic announcements still do not work when tuned to BBC 1,2,3 or 4. I have had huge rows with them and at last they are saying that as more people are complaining they are looking into it I France. All very frustrating.

I'm getting a new 308 soon, thanks for the warning !! Does your radio
have DAB as well, if so, does that work properly ?

Amazing, the RDS spec is over 20 years old, and some manufacturers still
can't get it right, even if they could on previous incarnations !!

I'd be interested to know how your find the dashboard layout on the 308 with
the instruments viewed *above* rather than *through* the steering wheel.
When I looked at one while killing time in the showroom when my old-shape
308 was being fixed, I found that I couldn't set the steering wheel low
enough to see all parts of the instrument panel without the wheel digging
into my thighs.

I've mentioned this to my Brother in Law (who works for Peugeot HQ) he
says people find it strange, and the press have taken a dislike, but
when set correctly for an individual, folk like it after a few days.

I'll give it a go, it's a lease car, so I've only got to live with it
for 12 mths, or 9k miles (which ever comes first )

My problem is that it does not change to the next local station as I

So I only suggest before continuing complaining to Peugoet you establish

There's nothing wrong with the BBC's TA/EON data, works fine on my car

Well I got the 308 this weekend. I like it.

Yes, the steering wheel position is a bit odd, but I got used to it very
quickly. I raised the steering wheel so it doesn't contact my legs, and
I can see all of the instrument panel above it. It's the first
car I've driven where I've not had to push the driver's seat all the way
back. (I'm 6ft and half an inch tall). It's also got a 230 volt/50Hz/120
watt power socket in the rear seat area!

Now the on topic stuff:-

On the FM side, colour icons appear for the national radio stations,
(how on earth does it get those !?) The tuner is rather too sensitive
for its own good, has to be pointed at our local relay, because it’s
perfectly happy tuned to Oxford or Rowridge in town,
and leaving the town, it clings hold of the relay for bleeding miles !
It’s got two FM tuners, because with TA activated (regrettably buried
three layers into the menu) I get Heart FM jumping in with travel news
on BBC stations.

BBC National DAB mux is solid driving around north Hampshire, even
in most of Alton (except the High St), Indoor DAB portables in a part of
the town I regularly visit refuse to see anything. Curiously the stereo
image on R2 is far better than FM’s, (even when there’s max FM signal).

Although the manual mentions DAB to FM handover, that option appears to
be greyed out on the menu, which is a shame,

TA announcements still burst in on DAB, from BBC and ILR FM transmitters
(presumably the FM tuner(s) remain active sniffing the band for TA flags)

You can have a mixture of FM, DAB, and AM stations stored on the large
touch screen, which is very civilised

A mains socket (ie a built-in mains inverter) is very useful. I bought a
free-standing one from Halfords which plugs into the cigar lighter, and the
contact is very intermittent: if you so much as look at it, it emits a
piercing bleep as it cuts out or switches back on. Trying to persuade it to
stay on takes a lot of effort - and is not something you want to attempt
while driving :-(

I'm interested that you were able to adjust the steering wheel so the bottom
of it didn't dig into your thighs and yet the top of it didn't obscure the
bottom 1/3 of the speedo. Maybe the seat on the car that I sat in was
height-adjustable and had been wound up high. But I like to have my seat
fairly high so I stand a fighting chance of seeing the front end of the car
(especially the wings when parallel parking) - and I'm 5' 10" so only a
couple of inches shorter than you.

I wish when I'd bought my Mark 1 308 it had come with an option to have the
same sports seats that my previous 306 had. Both my wife and I find that the
seats on the 308 (even the Sport model) don't provide anywhere near as much
lumbar and side support. I wonder if the Mark 2 308 is any better. Maybe
I'll test drive one.

Yes, that's a good point. It's got a rear reversing camera, which is
just as well, because you can see bugger all through the back window.

I had a 3008 before this, and I do miss the really high ride height,
and double deck boot. I've not attempted any parallel parking with it
yet, let's see how I get on with that, because I am sat very low (not
quite like an F1 driver, but after a year of the 3008 it feels like it !)

Strangely our little Volvo has a driver's seat that goes back much
further than my (quite long) longs need, but in my bog-standard Transit
I have the seat all the way back!

When my dad was much younger he was almost my height, but when he drove
my car he had to slide the seat forward because he had short legs and a
long body. So he'd have the seat forward and his head would touch the roof.

Mark, doesn't that Sony I have do that? I seem to think it does but I
turned it off in the end because it was annoying. Or I could be
remembering that Blaupunct I had.

What's the audio control like? On the Volvo it's necessary to reduce the
bass to -1, otherwise the jingles on the BBC locals for weather etc make
a dreadful thumping noise.

No, a 300 mm whip on the roof, with I think a loading coil in the base

Extremely good. It was perfectly happy tuned to Radio 3 Guildford on
90.3, as I drove past the Basingstoke relay, pushing out Radio 2 on 90.1.

Of course the point is, the RDS should have sused out that R3
Basingstoke was a far better bet !!

That Sony of yours certainly does it,

BBC DAB seems far less 'bassy' than the FM versions, most of the
commercial stations sound bloody awful on both platforms. I've decided
to make DAB the default platform, so I've actually had to increase
the bass setting slightly above '0' (for the first time in years !)

You'll have the anti-DAB fascists issuing you with death threats!

Except, I've discovered, it comes alive for Classic FM and regional ILR,
Wave 105. DAB to FM handover (and back) works very well, but so far
only for those two stations. I suspect it matches the FM RDS PS name,
with the equivalent on DAB. Those two stations, seem to be the only two
in my area where the PS codes *exactly* match. There's no chance for BBC
stations, FM PS 'BBC R2', DAB PS 'BBC Radio 2', so as far as the radio
is concerned no match.

However, and this confirms the OP's original point. I'm pretty sure BBC
EON TA switching does not work, in fact I think the radio totally
ignores EON, period. National radio presets don't update themselves in
the background. Example; I drive from location A to location B, with
Radio 2 all the way, and then hit the Radio 4 preset, it's still on the
R4 freq at location A.

When I do get BBC traffic announcements, they are already in progress,
which indicates the primitive method of the second tuner scanning for
a flag.

I don't think that's anything to do with the equipment you're listening
