I probably don't take enough notice to recall what station has closed
down, but I see that the Freeview EPG currently goes from 7-9
bypassing channel 8. Is it being reserved, or has someone pulled out?
BTW, wouldn't it be refreshing if Euronews was added to Freeview. The
news on BBC, ITN and Sky is almost identical and so inward looking.
Euronews, although repetitive, does give news reports of proper world
and European news. Maybe the Government wants us only to get a
"worldview" approved by them??
Anyway, a reply about Channel 8 would be welcome.

Al Jazeera has a broad spectrum of world news.

It is used for regional channels in Wales (S4C) and Scotland (TeleG).

It is on Freesat along with other Europe News stations.
Really it is surprising how much more on Freesat than Freeview, maybe the
BBC etc want Freeview to fail.

Not really, there's just gallons more bandwidth available on satellite. Bear
in mind, channels such as CNN and Russia Today are part time on DTT, because
they have to share bandwidth on a timeslot basis.

So Ofcom, Govt. etc should toss-off all the soft porn channels,
shopping channels and pop-video channels off Freeview then!

Pun intended...

Indeed. In fact the most irritating thing about running a re-scan on Freeview,
is not the re-scan per se, but having to sit down and delete all the gunk
afterwards. I only retain about 40% of the channels.

why would you expect the government to provide euronews? - if they want to
be on freeview it's their business to buy the space.

It would be nice for Freeview to carry programmes worth watching. But I
don't suppose that will happen.... Likewise for Sky Television....
