FAST TRACK ANNOUNCEMENT remove uk.sport.orienteering
=======================

In the procedures established for maintaining the uk.* hierarchy
<http://www.usenet.org.uk/guidelines.html> there are provisions, where
there is a consensus and the proposal is straightforward and
non-controversial, to proceed by the "fast-track" method, so as to avoid
the necessity for holding a full vote.

I have now received a request to fast-track the following proposal:

delete newsgroup uk.sport.orienteering

This proposal will be activated no earlier than five days from the posting
of this notice (i.e. not before December 27th), unless there are
objections (of which six or more, or any one which seems to the Committee
to be well founded, shall suffice to halt the process).

Objections should be emailed directly to Control at
<con...@usenet.org.uk>.

Objections will be resolved by the committee (comm...@usenet.org.uk)

============================================================================

Newsgroup line:
uk.sport.orienteering The sport of Orienteering in the UK

RATIONALE: uk.sport.orienteering

It has long been custom within uk.* to check for groups that are not
being used and then to remove them. By doing this we keep the number of
dead groups down increasing the chances that someone stumbling across a
group will find it useful.

An analysis of the posts to uk.sport.orienteering from 2013-11-29 to
2014-11-29 has shown that there were no posts in this period.

It is not the intention to remove any groups that are, or people
believe will be, useful going forward. If you are a user of the group
and feel it should remain then please reply to this and join the debate
on uk.net.news.config so I know not to press ahead with this.

CHARTER:
uk.sport.orienteering

The group is for discussion of the sport of orienteering in the UK.
Appropriate topics include event information, information on new
fixtures, organisation of transport to events, issues arising from
incidents which have occurred at UK events and the technical aspects of
the sport which are particularly relevant to the UK.

Advertising

Advertising is forbidden, with these exceptions:

* Suppliers of goods and services relevant to orienteering in the UK
may post an invitation to visit their web site or request details. It
should be of four lines or fewer and not posted more than once every
3 months. The subject line should begin "ADVERT: ", except for
vacancy adverts, when it should begin "JOB: ".

* Organisers of orienteering events may advertise these on the same
terms but begin the subject with "EVENT: ". They should give a site
URL for specific details where possible. If, however, they are
drawing attention to an event which has been organised at short
notice (less than six weeks before the event), details may be posted
at weekly intervals in the run up to the event. In these latter
circumstances it is also permissable to omit the URL and post up to
twenty lines of more detailed information.

Binaries & Formatting

Encoded binaries (e.g. pictures, compressed files, etc.) are forbidden.
Such material belongs on a web or FTP site to which a pointer may be
posted. Cryptographic signatures (e.g. PGP) may be used where
authentication is important and should be as short as possible.

Posts must be readable as plaintext. HTML, RTF and similarly formatted
messages are prohibited. To see how to make your newsreader comply with
this, read <http://www.usenet.org.uk/ukpost.html>.

Warning

Anyone posting contrary to this charter may be reported to their
"postmaster" and/or Service Provider.
