Alan Bailey used to have an owner who gave them silly names (I think they
all went to D Hadyn Jones in the end). One I remember the Chester racecourse
commentator had a problem with was HESFINMENTALTOO.

Spoonerisms are great things.

I remember Mary Hinge and think that Julie Cecil trained this one which was
not a bad horse - not sure about Betty Swollocks.

For those of a gentle disposition look away now.

Going through spoonerisms the one I always waited to see whether they would
get away with was Fleet Maps ;o)

Hi all,
I used to race greyhounds and I tried hard to name one 'Pheasant Plucker'
(being a butcher at the time), but they refused to allow it.
Great shame I thought. I could just imagine the tannoy giving out the winner
and then having to say - Whoops, sorry about that.

Steve
-

A bit milder perhaps, but I was a little surprised that Nicholas
Mistress got through.

I do remember a race at Redcar, I think, a number of years ago that was
called " The Norfolk & Goode Selling Handicap".

Try saying it in a Geordie accent!!

My favourite in the seventies was a horse called Muff Diver. Presumably
the powers that be didn't know what it meant. And then there was Shy
Talk - a Northern (I think) term for a coward.

I can remember seeing a clip of an american race (on a Denis Norden show, I
think) which was won by a horse called 'Hoof Hearted'.

I heard of this horse in my schooldays. Stablemate was 'Ice Melted'.

Mary Hinge was definitely trained by Julie Cecil.
I recall Graham Goode actually calling the Spoonerism when it raced at
Kempton (I think) early in it's career.
The same owner/trainer combo also had one called Joe Blob!

I remember a few weeks ago a certain Irish commentator had the pleasure of
"Inside the last, and Slippery Dick is wearing down Foxy Fanny"

Oh how I laughed

You think you got some rude names
In Australia in recent time we've had a jumper called Richard Cranium
and a harness horse called Cracka Fats yet a New Zealand horse called Hooker
had to change its name. I greyhound called Phallic Symbol raced several
times before the officials realised what it meant

God, I've nearly ruptured myself laughing at this posting. Please
don't anyone ruin it by revealing it's all a hoax!
