Nickname - Kipper. J was probably for John.

Had to give race riding following an car accident, as far as I remember
his eyesight was affected.

I think he came close to making the big time on Tromos, and that the
horse's career was shortened after being got at. For more details see
the Alec Bird book.

Will that do? Oh lived in Wantage! and his riding weight was 7/10.

He was known as Kipper Lynch, but I don't know his proper name.

He nearly drowned in the Thames at Windsor at one evening meeting there, when
his mount bolted and threw him in !

And Kippers can't swim.
I had forgotten that incident. It's surprising how often this NG brings back
memories. Usually it's Roger who brings them back.
Did one of Kippers son's not become a jockey.
Does anyone recall a jockey 1950's called Bert Packham. He had a very low
strike rate
and used to come up on 33/1 shots in handicaps like the Victoria Cup at
Hurst Park.

Derek

I've always believed John 'kipper' Lynch was so named because
he walked with his feet splayed. I do stand to be corrected tho'...
