I used to follow the Forster stable very closely and had some nice wins as
a result. I was also privileged to witness (and punt on) the incredible
training feat he undertook to get Martha's Son ready for the QM Chase a
couple of years back. The news of Capt. Forster's death, together with that
of Paul Kelleway made today a really miserable one for me.

They will both be missed

A very sad day for racing. Both great Men.
The Captain being such a standard bearer for jump racing as Lord
Oaksey siad "more steeplechasing than just national hunt racing as he
never really rated those hurdles much." A major loss.
Cannot help but feel that with the loss of The Boss (Gordon Richards)
the retirement of Jenny and now the death of the Captain and Paul jump
racing cannot really be the same anymore.
Very sad news.

Its a bit like the old adage re policemen- always looking younger than
yourself.

First of all, it was the pop stars, then it was the children's TV presenters,
then all the football and rugby stars who magically seemed younger than me,
then the cricketers.... then the Tory Party Leaders....

But there was always, always, some crusty old NH trainer in tweeds who looked
as if he rode before the war, lived at some hurdlebunter address in Wiltshire,
the North Riding or deepest Glorstersher and who blew his nose loudly on
camera, always had one for the four-miler at the Festival and who had the
ability to made me feel relatively young.

But they're a fast disappearing breed, alas.
Long may Geoff Hubbard thrive!

Sad losses, both Capt Tim and Paul Kelleway.
I'll always remember Forster's pre National advice to Charlie Fenwick aboard
Ben Nevis in 1980.

its a shame paul kellaway had so few horses just before he retired ,he was
one of the few flat trainers that realised that race horses are supposed to
turn up at a racecourse every now and then he was never afraid of failure
unlike many other top trainers who seem to be afraid to try anything that
might affect their own standing ...gh
