Good news - Gary and Luke are both through to Round 4 - I'm very sorry
for David Patrick who met (IMHO) the 'best Amateur' in the World at
present - Luke Donald (and he's British!!)
Apparently, Molder (no not "Fox") is the American's favourite for the
title! (Wonder if Scully is his caddie?)
Last posting tonight - more tomorrow!

Harry.

Luke's match against Molder will be a cracker.

Interestingly, there has only ever been one English Champion - Harold
Hilton, England, 1911 and one Scottish (but twice a winner) - H.G.
Whigham, Scotland, 1896, 1897
Seems that a UK winner is a wee bit overdue?

Harry,
What are the numbers is brackets?
Hardly age (6??)
Hardly handicap!!
Seed perhaps? In which case its a bad year for the seeds
ie. Luke Donald was 18th and Driscoll 6th in the pecking order.
The top 64 went through to the match play stages.
Regards,
Harry.
I think Luke will be very disappointed as he has dominated the American
College scene for two years and has the beating of anyone on his day.
Still, a good show by the Brit's - roll on next year!
BTW, Peter McEvoy recently said that in his opinion Luke is the 2nd best
English player in the world. Difficult to accept that until one thinks
that Lee Westwood is No. 6 in the world and the next best English player
is Jamie Spence at something like 110!
Regards,
Harry.
PS. I'll post the Final result tomorrow for those who are
interested.

You've lost Paul Lawrie...
English golf I feel is going to have to wait for Luke, Paul Casey, Nick
Dougherty, Zane Scotland, Phil Rowe and the 'prize guy' Simon Dyson to
make the break through.
Of these only Simon is the only Tour Pro (with 2 wins already this year
on the Asian Tour) - the rest will not come into the Pro Ranks until
after next years Walker Cup.
Although we have a dearth of talent at present these lad's will all make
it and all will win a lots of tournaments and cash.
Faldo rates Nick Dougherty so highly he pays for him to join him in
Florida for a month every spring - he obviously recognises the talent he
has!
Regards,
Harry.
Apologies to Paul Lawrie. He should have been in the list at about 54.
