A&B are playing a forsomes match agin good ol' C&D.

1. A drives into the rough. A&B agree to take a penalty drop. Who takes
the shot (shot 3, of course).

2. A drives into a water hazard. Who plays next?

I think it's B in both cases....

Correct.

Foursomes partners play alternate 'scoring strokes' and tee shots
only. Penalty strokes do not interfere with this order.

A 'provisional ball', being a potential 'scoring stroke' IS played by
the alternate partner.

Yup. 'Tis. And B has to do the dropping in both cases. 29/4.

First of all, I think that v-par on its own is tougher than straight
stroke play or match play because it is in effect a match against an
opponent who pars every hole and never make a mistake - sort of like
how T.W. used to be. Mixed foursomes is tough because a mistake by
the man can sometimes put the lady in a position on the golf course
that she never otherwise encounters - the worst case scenario where
the mans hits OB from the back tees and the lady must now play three
of the tee from a place where she may not even be able to reach the
fairway. So, combining them makes for a very tough form of the game.
Maybe one of the ladies out there will comment if they are still
reading this newsgroup. Janet? MaggieB.

<snip>

Thank you for the explanations. I've never played against par nor a mixed
foursome - there is always news to discover!

This year, I played a premiere Chapman foursome in a team with a
long-hitter - that gave me some unusual spots far away from the tee,
including a putt when he drove the green (245 m only). I succeeded to hole
for an eagle!

I also played my first straight foursome, also with a guy.

I, too, am curious to hear some comments from the girls ;->

Ciao,

Paul

Sorry for the delayed reaction - we women are rather busy this time of year
with certain Christmas preparations .....;-)).

Yes, mixed foursomes can be tough for the reasons stated but I much prefer
it to mixed greensomes where, so often in my experience, the male partner
will either say 'we'll take my drive, it's longer' when it is in the middle
of rough and mine is maybe fity to sixty yards back but in the middle of the
fairway or, if both are on the fairway, they say 'we'll take yours, it is
the perfect length for my 'whatever' iron/wood', even if I could easily put
their's on the green with the same or even a shorter club! So the answer is
to only play mixed greensomes with a man who values playing with ladies and
treats them with equal respect out there - I have to say, thankfully, a
growing band.

Have a great Christmas. We usually play golf on Christmas morning - no
chance this year. More likely to do some cross country skiing - well, not
me of course..... too much like hard work.

Love & peace

Janet
