Aston Villa have finally started reversing the trend towards exiting
players in the last few weeks. They have signed David Ginola from Spurs
for £3m.
Both signings seem to have been made by unfashionable clubs for players
reaching the end of their careers. While Dan Petrescu could have stayed
at Chelsea for a couple more years as a squad member his appearances
would probably have been limited by the arrival of Mario Stanic who
seems certain to start wide on the right for Chelsea with Flo,
Hasselbaink, Zola and Gudjohnson fighting it out upfront for two
starting berths.
Petrescu - "Super Dan" - a fans favourite at Stamford Bridge, had been
out of favour at Chelsea since a run-in with Gianluca Vialli after being
substituted in the defeat against Manchester United last season. It is
possible that Petrescu could have been useful in the reserves but that
wasn't his aim and Vialli may not have wanted to have any more run-ins
with the Romanian.
The situation is a similar one for David Ginola who has fallen out of
favour at White Hart Lane. Spurs boss David Graham has obviously got an
agreeable deal for the 33-year old Frenchman.
The Bradford fans are in for a treat here... Jason, are you listening,
put a quid on Dan as first goalscorer each week... you'll rake it in. He
is a superb player, but a bit of a difficult sod off the pitch. If only
we could have afforded his wages...

Don't listen to the bad man, Jason! I kept betting on Petrescue
last year to be first scorer and he only ever did when I didn't.

In the good old days, he was always 18-1 at Hillsborough... I reckon he
made me over Ł100 before Tricky Trev fell out with him.

May I respectfully suggest that you cease scoring every week then
Vicky.

Dat
Now why didn't I think of that one ...
This is quite scary, we have signed a player who can pass a ball,
please don't tell me we're gonna try and entertain our way to safety.
I'll have a few quid on him throughout the season as he is a bit
better than most in our team.
The consequence will probably be Jamie Lawrence moving to your club,
innit wonderful how footy works.

Probably helps if you bet on him when he'splaying Vicky !
I would normally say stick your money on him this year as barring
injuries he's bound to play every game but unfortunately he is playing
for Bradford City and scoring first ( some would say at all ) is quite
an achievement for us.

Well Chris Hutchings was given some £7m to spend on strengthening the
team/squad with experienced premiership players ( hopefully not too
old this time !! ) with certain key positions in mind.
The positions were :
Defence : Brought in Nolan and Atherton both free.
Midfield : Hopkin for 2.5 million.
Midfield (Right) : Petrescu for 1 million
We are supposedly after one more player who will be a striker.
Basically the transfer fees paid have not been prohibitive so he's
been able to pay the wages.
Our top earners last season ( allegedly ) were Lee Sharpe and Dean
Saunders on around 9 - 10k a week ( again allegedly ).
What was Petrescu on at Chelsea ? What was Summerbee on at Sunderland
?

I think they realise that they have to spend some money this season or
they'll definately go down. As it is, Coventry look decidedly troubled
at the moment.
