Playing a one-two with Peter Bradbrook. Though shackled by Bill
Slater, when receiving the ball back from Peter I felt confident
enough to hit it first time. I'd seen a gap just to the left of
Malcolm Finalayson and aimed for that. Whenever I was presented with
such an opportunity, I never hit the ball with all the power I could
muster because I didnt have to. When I saw an opening I would pass the
ball through the sapce knowing no one could reach it. Macolm Finaylson
couldnt and we were level.
Most of my goals were like that. Rarely did I hit a shot from 30
yards. It was about ghosting into space and hoping a team mate had
spotted me on the run and thread through a weighted pass.
POSITIONING GOALS
If not that, then I attacked the ball. Going into space where I
thought the ball was going to end up from a cross, a pass, or even
from a block by an opponent.
I was a predator inside the box. I'd pass the ball, stroke it, chip
it, side foot it or drive it into the net depending on the situation
and the circumstances which I dound myself in.
Quite often I didnt think about what I was doing. I never panicked, or
snatched at the ball. Due to the position I took up I felt confident
of having enough time to apply the killer touch.
Sharpness and spped off the mark were crucial to my play.
