Just more examples, as if any were necessary, that football has got to put
it's house in order. For over a decade now, the technology has existed to
eliminate this kind of problem, and the FA, to it's shame, has done nothing
about it.
Within seconds of something happening, everybody near a monitor has seen
what happened and told the rest of us, but the ref isn't allowed to know
what happened. It would be very simple for the ref to be able to say to the
4th or 5th official "was that a penalty/did the ball cross the line/ was it
offside?" and to get a yes/no answer, then act accordingly.
All we get from the FA is pathetic excuses about how it isn't fair if it
doesn't go all the way down to schoolboy level, or how it would interrupt
the flow of the game. But the game is already stopped for these incidents,
and it doesn't go all the way down in cricket or rugby. If the cameras are
there, they should be used. All they are doing is passing the buck on to
FIFA.
There are cameras in cricket stumps and in the pockets of snooker tables, I
don't accept they can't be put in the corners of the goal.
Wake up and smell the coffee, FA.
