Rutherford's looking dangerous again - Roland-Jones obviously came off
second best against him, bowling into the wind - five fours in seven balls.

What I saw of Rowland-Jones the other day didn't impress me but I was
a bit biased against him after the Sky numpties had been banging on
about his pace compared with Colleymore. OK, Collymore was a couple of
mph slower on average but his quicker ball was same as R-J at 82mph.
Another Middx bowler - whose name escapes me - was described as a
medium-paced dobber but was bowling quicker than R-J.

Presumably Gareth Berg.

R-J is very much a work in progress. There's quite a lot to like, but
international recognition is way past his current pay grade. 2-3 years
time, very possibly, but not in 2013.

Cheers,

Mike

I see he did rather better downwind (and downhill) in the afternoon:
3-0-1-1.

If he bowled no maidens, how did he manage to concede only one run in 3
overs??

If you take the time to have a look in a little more detail rather than cherry-picking which I know you never do, Robert you'll see that

a) He was taken off after 4 overs as they got at him (4-1-29-1) where the other England openers were pretty tight
b) His next spell was very tidy (7-3-18-2) but included one 10-run over
c) Two tail-end wickets. Big wow.

Promising, yes. Consistent? No. A couple more years in the counties, methinks.

Yes, but Boult was the only rabbit in the NZ side; Bracewell has a FC
average of over 20.

Roland-Jones is an attacking bowler who has the sense to pitch the
ball up. That is why he takes so many wickets. It also means that on
occasions the batsmen will get after him, but that is a small price to
pay in the context of his general success. . RH
