Can someone point me to the guide/rules on cricket?
I come from a country where we 'have heard about this game' but no one ever
played it prof, hence when I watch the cricker here in the UK I seem to
lack something.
I know some basics, but would love to read something for beginners...
many thanks!

The BBC have a good section on cricket:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sportacademy/hi/sa/cricket/default.stm
Of special consideration should be the "Rules" section:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sportacademy/hi/sa/cricket/rules/default.stm
Their "Jargon Guide" is good too:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sportacademy/hi/sa/cricket/jargon_guide/default.stm
Books -
"The Bluffer's Guide to Cricket" (ISBN 1902825497) - funny and cheap!
www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1902825497/qid%3D1123507158/202-1118517-4363811
"The Laws of Cricket" is very dry, but an important read nevertheless.

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on Usenet and in e-mail?
Yes they have. Stick "cricket Philadelphians " and "J B King" into
Google. RH

I love the top-posting signature :P
however I do not agree with that, as it only applies to new people in the
conversation, the ones who are involved in it know the previous content....
ain't I right?

On the face of it, a fair assumption, but (my) practical experience
suggests otherwise.
In my circa 15 years of Usenet usage, coupled with use of some 20
different news servers - including academic networks in different
countries - I've never found a news server that catches every message
or has exactly the same retention levels.
Most people don't just go on about top-posting for the fun of it -
there's a convention for a very good reason.
got the message :)
my usenet experience is no where near to 20 years, even if taking the period
from first-ever-post-date years ago to now (there was a looong break after
the first few hundreds of posts :) )
you win, I will try better now :)

In my (approx 7 years) of posting on Usenet. People who go on about
top-posters are the ones that you hope will killfile you.
