Anyone know the FM frequency for TMS at the cricket grounds please?

Hi.

I bought one of those 'hook over your ear' radios a few years back to
listen to TMS while at Old Trafford watching a test. I'm sure the
battery will not have much life left in it, and I'm at Old Trafford
again next month for The Ashes.

Rather than have to shell out for another of those crappy little radios,
I thought I might just take my proper FM radio and pick it up on that.
But I haven't any idea what the frequency is. I know that it is the same
for all the grounds, because my Old Trafford radio worked fine at Lord's
a couple of times as well.

So, does anyone know what the in-ground FM frequency for TMS is please?

It depends where you are. I don't think here would be a special
frequency for a ground, but the local AM/MW frequency would pick it
up, or 198 longwave. I get TMS on 720 MW from the Altnagelvin
transmitter in Co L'Derry.
Those little radios might have a lithium battery and they last for
years.

Interesting question. I'm a bit of a radio nerd and took my Grundig 'Yacht Boy' to a Champions Trophy match in Cardiff recently. Out of curiosity, I searched through the FM band trying to find the Sky Sports commentary that you can get on those earpiece things, but couldn't find it. It's possible they broadcast it on a frequency that is off the scale of regular radios.

If I were you, I'd make a quick trip to Argos before the game and get a radio with LW on it.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure that it'll be an FM frequency in the range
they allocate to other major events, such as 'Radio Silverstone' at the
British GP, trouble is I don't know whereabouts on the band it is.
I intend taking a portable scanner to listen on, so I ought to be able
to get it even if it is 'off the scale'

Right. If anyone is interested, I can exclusively reveal, (I'm pretty
certain it's exclusive; I've not seen it promulgated anywhere else, and
neither the over-the-ear-radio people, nor TMS themselves, seemed
willing to divulge it to me), that the frequency of TMS broadcasts
within the grounds is... 62.3MHz FM

Or, at least, it was at Old Trafford today, and I'm fairly sure it
doesn’t change from ground to ground.

TMS not on FM. It's on Radio 5live extra 198 LW, and MW at 720AM where
I live.

I think max.it is right. TMS is not available on BBC Radio 4 FM, but only on BBC Radio 4 198 LW.

I was surprised to see that the two have slightly different schedules, with BBC Radio 4 FM missing the TMS. Links below, look at 9th Aug 2018 10:30 am, Start of next England vs India test.

BBC mentions BBC Radio 4 FM is now available between 92-95 FM, 103-105 FM - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/info/frequencies.shtml, so may be FM 62.3MHz still works and runs a schedule same as 198 LW. Or if this does not work anymore, please let me know. I see the solution was from 2013. Either way I see a concern with being able to tune into it.

I find its available FM frequency starts from 87.5 Mhz, would you know if there are other transistors which allow tuning in at lower frequency - 62.3 Mhz earlier suggested?

Yes, that has always been the case. However I believe there's a special
very short-range service for fans at the ground, though I don't know
what frequency it uses. TMS is also available of Radio 5 Live Sports
Extra, but I think that is on DAB and the Internet only.

If you want to rebroadcast the TMS commentary, then I think that would
be illegal.

It may not help - and I'm sure this has already been mentioned in the thread but you can buy earpieces in the ground - I have a couple collected from down the years from the Oval that work on repeated visits.

Some have a button to be able to switch between Sky Sports and TMS commentary, but I can also get BBC Surrey/London for the county games at the Oval. There is no tuner on the earpiece. From the "tinniness" of the sound, I can only assume that it's an FM frequency that's being broadcast.

One of the problems with the Internet era isn’t that four men using four different devices will receive the broadcast at 4 different times. One can no longer watch cricket on Sky with commentary from Radio 5.

You can if you listen through a laptop as you can pause the audio so it lines up with the video or vice versa.

I can see the advantages for - to pluck one example from the air - a bookmaker overseas to have delay-free coverage of a cricket match.

I don't know how they dunnit, but everyone with long hair was

reaching the bookie's shop. Only could have been flat racing, the
bookie taking a bet after the off could actually be taking a bet after
the finish or very close to it. Fine for the bookie most of the time,
unless the punter knows the result or the probable result.

would have been mid 1970's.
