We are looking for a team of helpers to help us deliver the above Arts
Conference being organized by the EdSoc of AMR. This will be a high profile
event with possible interest from BBC Radio and TV. Please can you let us
know if you would be willing to help on the day of the Conference - Sat Feb
20, 1pm onwards and also on Friday Feb 19 (to help in the hanging of
paintings which will form the exhibition). Other tasks to be filled:
Ushers
Stewards
Registration table
Guides
Security
Driver with van
Refreshments (to wear black trousers or skirt/dress and white shirt/blouse)
Miscellaneous
Thanks for your consideration. Help from people living in and around the
north west London area particularly important.

The Speakers
Dr. Yaqub Zaki has held academic appointments at the Universities of
Manchester, Lancaster and Harvard-MIT. He was Chief Adviser to the World of
Islam Festival 1974-76.He has published articles in various academic
journals and has contributed to the Encyclopaedia Britannica. He is
currently engaged on a monograph on the Alhambra entitled, The Al Hambra, A
Functional Analysis.
Godfrey Goodwin was born in 1921. Director of the Royal Asiatic Society, he
has taught in Egypt and as Assistant Professor of Art and Architectural
History at the University of the Bospherous, Istanbul, 1957-1968. He has
written many books on Islamic art and culture of Spain and the Ottomans and
is currently writing a Guide to the Palace of Topkapi.
Michele Messaudi A Consultant in the fields of Education and the Family,
Michele Messaudi was recently commissioned to develop a curriculum for Art
for a Muslim School. She has also worked on a curriculum for Sound
Education (Music).
Dr. Ahmed Moustafa A leading international authority on Arab/Islamic Art
and design. Educated at Alexandria University and the Central School of
Art, London. His doctorate was on The Scientific Foundation of Arabic
Lettershapes. He has lectured and taught in many parts of the world and was
visiting Professor at the Prince of Wales Institute for Architecture.
Currently he is a Fellow in Islamic art and design at the Oxford Centre for
Islamic Studies. He has exhibited all over the world and has received major
prizes for painting and for sculpture. In October 1997, Her Majesty, Queen
Elizabeth II presented a major composition by Ahmed Moustafa entitled
'Where the Two Oceans Meet" as a royal gift to Pakistan during her state
visit to mark Pakistan's fiftieth anniversary.
