Hi,

Sid and Mill Purse, commonly known as Uncle Sid and Auntie Mill were
actually my Aunt and Uncle. Both are now dead, Auntie Mill died very
recently at the age of 94. However, I have very little information on them,
and wish to gather as much as possible, like their ministries and testimony,
what churches they visited, any people who they worked with?

I know Uncle Sid travelled widely in the UK and US, but I believe he also
travelled on the Continent of Europe. Where did he go, what associations did
these churches form, did he plant any Churches (I don't think so, apart from
his home Church in South Chard, Somerset). Are there any recorded sermons?

My intention is to gather whatever information I can aquire, recording it,
and see if there is a possibility of publishing it if I feel it would be
instructive or of benefit.

Any help or information gratefully recieved.

I have posted this request on other Newsgroups since I don't know if I'll
reach the right people on individual newsgroups.

Hi came across your posting on Sid Purse. I can't provide a lot of
information but I went to the Kingston Christian Fellowship in the 1970's
and Uncle Sid was frequently mentioned as one of the people who had been
an inspiration to the church when it started. When the fellowship went
through a bad time and initially split, he came up to London and meetings
were held every evening for several weeks in the summer of 1975. This
was the first time I had seen him ministering and was a very moving
experience. At this time he appointed the eldership in the fellowship.
Subsequently I saw him ministering at conferences held in the Butlin's
camp at Skegness on several occasions.
From what I can remember he had ministered all over the UK - particularly
in a church in Swindon and had also been to Israel.
When did he die and is the South Chard Church he started still in
existence?

Thankyou Peter,

Uncle Sid had a stroke in about 1986, and died a couple of years later.
Unfortunately, his stroke left him mostly unable to communicate, although he
was still reasonably mobile. I haven't actually got a date for this, but
shall ask my mother later on this week.

Yes, I'd forgotten he'd been to Israel. Margaret who lived with them for
many years, spent several years in Israel. Thanks for the information on
Kingston. I lived around that way for a while and went to a bretheren
assembly in Ewell. There is a possibility that some of the churchgoers from
there would have some knowledge of Kingston Christian Fellowship. I'll have
to try tracking some down.

The South Chard fellowship went through a bad patch after Uncle Sid, and
some of his colleagues died, but it is still going, and beginning to
flourish. They have a web site: www.southchard.org/ however, this does not
have any further links on the index page (I'm sure it used to).

Any further contacts or links would be gatefully recieved.

Best regards

Taliety

You might try contacting Pioneer as they have historical and
continuing connections with many people and fellowships of a

Hi thanks for the information on Sid Purse. Subsequent to my previous post
I remembered that I had the programs from 2 of the South Chard conferences
- 1978 and 1979. These contain pictures of Uncle Sid and other leaders in
South Chard together with an interview with Aunty Mill. This is about 3
pages long and describes how the church at South Chard started. If you
are interested I would be happy to photocopy these and send them.
All the best Peter

Hi, I just stumbled across your post. I do not remember Sid Purse well but my father would know more. We were in Chichester with Roger Price and I know that Uncle Sid had a great impact on us. If you do put anything together I would be keen to seed/buy a copy. I may also be able to give you contact details for people in Chichester who knew Uncle Sid and some of his story. Matthew

Gosh! 12 and a bit years after the post was made. We can't even be sure
that this Taliety is still alive, let alone that he is reading uk.r.c.

God bless,
