Granted, the advances in culture and medicine, etc. that he attributes to Islam
are decidedly false, but he was talking about the religion of Islam, not the
Islamic terrorists. And he did not say Islam _invented_ arches or calligraphy.

He is a diplomat trying to settle differences and calm things down. What do
you expect him to say at the summit in Cairo (which was in April of 2010 and
was about Muslim entrepreneurship and designed to improve relations with the
Muslim world)? Perhaps he should have removed a shoe and pounded it on the
table?

And I thought it was against this group's charter to discuss things pertaining
to the politicians in the USA?

It's okay to discuss US politicians as long as you're slamming them? Or it's
okay if they're on Youtube? What?

I wouldn't think a US President talking about Islam in Egypt would be one of
them. This video was from years ago and is NOT about terrorism or US policies
in the Middle East. Looks like just links to videos could contain anything.

Who knows? It was very pro-Muslim and designed to flatter Muslims at a
conference encouraging Muslims to be entrepreneurs.

And John Cleese went for the Spaniards picturing them as dumb! Why can't
we be correct all the time?
Why can't we make incompetent dumb people smart? The difference between
beliefs, cultures and genes would be fixed in a jiffy!
Finally the sentence "All men are free made and equal", will be
transformed from the greatest lie in history, to a fact!

Oh! How easy everything would be! And finally You could transform
Yourself from "Mark Goodge", to "Mark me well, I am Good"!

Greetings, I love You

Mark, I would be pleased if you would make a definitive ruling that any
discussion of whether President Obama is black or white or whether he
was born in America or anywhere else, is off-topic in uk.r.c

There are other forums where you may discuss such topics to your hearts'
content.

You are skating on very thin ice, Lyrik. Abuse of the moderator is a
serious offence in uk.r.c. I am hoping that it is lack of familiarity
with English that is at fault here, but, as the English proverb has it,
"a word in time saves nine".

I've never seen him accused of being white. He is accused of not keeping his
campaign promises to blacks.

I don't care if he's black, or white, or black and white (which is what he is).
In this country a person is listed in the Census as black if they are a certain percentage of black (much less than 50%), so here he is officially a black man.

I do care that he doesn't seem to be rational about Islam and Muslims, and is
willing to lie about Islam's contributions to society at this conference to
bolster the confidence of Muslims to become businessmen. He could have easily
encouraged them without lying. It makes me wonder if he is rational?

He says his Muslim father was actually an atheist; that his Christian mother
actually had no interest in God or religion, and that he came to Christianity
late in life, but the way he is acting, I wouldn't be surprised if he converted
to Islam after his presidency ends next year. If he does, he will be known as
the biggest hypocrite American politics has ever known, and I'm going to be
real sorry I voted for him.

His reasons for becoming a Christian as an adult also don't seem like sound
reasons for claiming to be a Christian. It sounds like he 'became a Christian;
for practical reasons, and/or political reasons (to effect social change), and
not because of any true belief in Christ or Christianity.

"Obama is a Protestant Christian whose religious views developed in his adult
life.[397] He wrote in The Audacity of Hope that he "was not raised in a
religious household". He described his mother, raised by non-religious parents
(whom Obama has specified elsewhere as "non-practicing Methodists and
Baptists"), as being detached from religion, yet "in many ways the most
spiritually awakened person that I have ever known." He described his father
as a "confirmed atheist" by the time his parents met, and his stepfather as "a
man who saw religion as not particularly useful." Obama explained how, through
working with black churches as a community organizer while in his twenties, he
came to understand "the power of the African-American religious tradition to
spur social change."[398]" - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama#Religious_views

I must point out that Mark G. brought race into the discussion; I didn't
think it had anything to do with race, but with the religion of Islam, so
I didn't know what he was talking about when he said the following:

>> That is one of the most dishonest pieces of racist propaganda I have ever

Mark replied:

white Westerners."

How about if he lied about Islam in a discussion of Muslim terrorists? Is
that on-topic - because that is what that video was about.

The expression 'give him enough rope and he'll hang himself' means let him go
on with what he's doing, and he'll prove himself wrong (or trouble will result
for him from what he's doing).

I really don't see how the expression applied there, but Celia was trying to
make Nobody feel better (and you can 'go hang yourself' - Lol! That's another
expression meaning the hell with you and your feelings - just kidding).

I did the same thing, but luckily I was on a frozen creek that wasn't very
deep. However by the time I walked the 1/3 mile home, I was close to having
frostbite on my feet. Apparently, you can't ice skate on ice over moving water!

What a sad state we have got ourselves into when fun making is deemed
abusive.

I was just kidding about his ears because he's made comments himself about
them, and although he's likely heard comments about them before, I don't think
he's too sensitive about it.

You may call it "fun making", but the target of the "fun" could be pretty hurt
by witty comments criticizing their looks.

What a sad state we are in if we think that making opprobrious
references to a person's physical appearance is funny. I can remember
doing that in primary school - but I am glad to say that I have grown up
since then and now deeply regret the hurt I caused.

Linda

People don't realize that others can always find something to criticize about
themselves too. I always try to remember not to get down on myself too much
and used to tell my son not to criticize himself; 'that is other people's job',
meaning no matter WHAT you do, people will find something to criticize about
you (even if they can think of nothing but "You're so perfect!"), so don't try
to change yourself just to suit other people or as a response to their
criticism.

Unfortunately, children copy other children (and sometimes carry that behavior into adulthood if they never learn not to do so).

I had never picked on other children when I was young, and didn't ever see much of it being done.

But the first time I copied such behavior and mindlessly repeated what someone
else had said, I got a big lesson.

I was 12, and I heard a couple of girls on my school-bus agreeing they "hated"
this other girl on the bus.

We had just moved there that year, and the school year was pretty new, and
I neither knew them or the girl. But I copied them, and went up to this friend
of mine, pointed out the girl, and said, "I hate her". She was quite surprised
and exclaimed, "That's my SISTER!" (She knew I didn't even know her sister;
likely the other girls didn't know her either.)

Luckily, she forgave me, and we never said any more about it. But I've never
forgotten it, and am quite glad I was 'chastised' with embarrassment as soon
as I began to copy such foolish behavior in an effort to 'fit in' in a new
environment.

So what is to be done with adults who still have some childish traits?
Should they be killed as humanely as possible, or should they be slowly
tortured to death in a public arena to provide money-making
entertainment to sadists?
