I remember reading something by the chap who invented Desert Island
disks, in which he told how he and/or his researchers set up an
interview with a world-famous author, only to discover when he was
taxi-ed to the studio at BBC expense, that they had a somewhat bemused
man of the same name who had self-published a couple of not-very-good
books. As the chap said, they were paid to do an interview, so they did
the interview and the author had his eight disks ready and all went
swimmingly, but it was one episode of Desert Island Disks that was never
broadcast. Probably still in the BBC archives somewhere.

Such mistakes happen.

God bless,

Guy Goma is a taxi driver who was waiting downstairs in BBC HQ, where he
was mistaken for an internet expert, Guy Kewney. He was then interviewed
about a technical subject, live on TV, where he did remarkably well
considering his English was pretty poor and he knew almost nothing about
the subject.

The interview has been viewed many, many times, and you can see it here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhv9HJaA67c

He is now complaining that they never paid him for the interview, and he
wants a share of the royalties.

Thank you - but he was not the "Desert Island Disks" interviewee. Was it
Roy Plumley who came up with the idea?

I think it is a bit more than a mistake.

Due to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, in some western quarters there’s an exerted effort to put forth that Russia isn’t only on the wrong side now, it was also in times of history. To present that region as troubled in current times and also in history.

Anthony Rota, the speaker of the house introduced him, reading a script, “…Ukrainian war veteran…from WWII…who fought against the Russians”. Surely, those comments alone should’ve raised red flags; and usually to get into those places a fair bit of background checks are done.

Then you’ve got the other issue, how did someone who’d served in the 14th SS Wafen Division, a Nazi, get to Canada – and end up getting two rounds of applause as a hero for Canada and Ukraine in the Canadian houses of Parliament.

I know Anthony Rota has apologised, claiming this was entirely planned by him, which I don’t quite believe.

It’s worse than that, it give some credence to Putin, who’s been claiming of denazification of Ukraine being one of the reason for his stupid war.

Guy Goma, did an amazing act, he played the part and should've got the job he actually came in for.
