Thank you for everyones responses to the earlier post. I used to be a nursing assistant in a psychiatric hospital many years ago. I had friends who were psychiatric nurses, and even had a friend who was a psychiatric social worker. However the psychiatric hospital closed, and "care in the community" became the new buzzwords. The whole psychiatric duscussion fell by the wayside and apparently more important discussions about computers, mobile phones and social media came to the forefront. Years ago i tried to "help" a youngish(29 i think) female with mental health issues and addiction issues. Of course the whole thing ended in tears noone was helped and damage was done.
So then i stayed away from the mental health/addiction "scene". After all who am i? Its easily possible to do more harm than good. Even with the best of intentions ....so all became quiet on the Western Front.....praise God!
BUT THEN....the Church in its wisdom decided to put a youngish woman into our Bible study group. Perhaps the fault is all mine but i can no longer tolerate this woman. From my point of view she hi jacks the entire group and indulges in 10 minute prayers! She doesnt even know the difference between the old and new testaments!!
If the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for today....

1 Cor:12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

There can be no doubt that the Holy Spirit gave gifts if one accepts the historical accuracy of the New Testament documents. The question remains are the gifts of the Holy Spirit for today?

Ro 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God [are] without repentance.

So if that is true why so few "healings"?

Matt 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Mt 9:29 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.

From my point of view this young woman disrupts the meeting and doesnt even listen even though her Biblical knowledge is about zero! She is teaching us!!! By her own confession she has been diagnosed as a "paranoid schizophrenic" whatever that is. She is also recieving medication which by her own confession has had massive side effects, including a absolutely huge weight increase.

I am not even allowed to quote Christian Scripture in the Christian Church!!! eg

2Ti 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

This verse is rejected. The diagnosis of the "doctors" is absolute even above the Word of God.....

Of course on the other hand one can always do more harm than good. I used to know a preacher many years ago who said of the Churches attitude towards drug addicts was that we are "loving them to death"!!!!

I really feel like leaving the group and leaving the Christian Church to the tender mercies of the psychiatric profession.

God have mercy on all of us, including the young woman.....but i am fully congnizant that i can easily do more harm than good.....and not wish to make this young womans case more difficult. Also surely this is now down the women in the Church? Surely the women can do something for this young woman than us "mere males".

You don't say what position this woman holds. Is she just a fellow
attendeee? Is she running the group? What?

However in any case the solution is simple: move to a different Bible
study group.

God bless,

You seem to have a knack for finding strange churches and small groups,
Michael. Do you ever speak to church leaders about these issues, or do
you just take offense?
