I have a river cruiser with a 1500 cc diesel inboard BMC engine. This has an
old style, separate element oil filter. Does anyone know whether I can get a
conversion kit to enable me to use the modern car type "spin on" filters? If
so who can supply such a kit? Any help much appreciated.
Best regards to all, Ray.

ASAP at Beccles in Suffolk do a kit by mail order. its part number was
101990 and the price was about £45 Sorry but my price list is a bit out of
date and the part numbers some times change when they use different
suppliers.
They have a web page www.asap-supplies.com and their telephone number
is01502 716993 fax 01502 711680 E Mail address sa...@asap-supplies.com
But the best bet is to ring them and tell them what you want.

Why do you want to change it? "Spin on" filters seldom spin off without a
tool, and the contents of the old style element bowl can give early warning
of things going wrong with the engine.

We fitted one last year and they work really well. The first versions used
parts from the old filter and were prone to leak (we got ours exchanged
FOC) but they now completely replace the filter housing.

I filled out an application that said, "In Case Of Emergency Notify".
I wrote "Doctor"...What's my mother going to do?
A number of US firms (Fram, Champion) supply converter kits for engines.
Consists of a mount plate for the filter and flex hoses to tap into the oil
system. I'd be surprised if similar were not available in the UK.
Many thanks to you all for your help on the above, I've got a kit from ASAP
in Beccles....Ł25.13p if anyone's interested.
Happy cruising, Ray.

It could well be that Raymond has the same problem as we had - working
between the starter motor and alternator trying to get a good seal on
the olif filter was just hell - never got it right first time, always
had leaks - ofen with impressive oil sprays!. We got a converter that
fitted onto the existing oil filter fitting that allows the oil
filters from the Seat Toledo to be used and since then we have not
leaked one single drop of oil from the oil filter when the engine has
been running.
