I've just seen these devices advertised for about £39.
<a href="http://www.mailspeedmarine.com/fuel-tanks/mailspeed-marine/

Supposed to be very easy to fit and secure with key access to your
fuel tank.
Anyone tried one?

Yes. Fitted it about a year ago. Easy to fit, no problems with it since,
and passed by the BSS man last spring. I sealed the fixing screw
thoroughly with Sikaflex.

Make sure you get the correct neck size - the Mailspeed link doesn't
specify which size it is, but the lock is (was?) available in 1.25" and
1.5" BSP neck versions. The original Fuelock company website seems to
have gone away, are they still in business?

Incidentally a quick Google shows a much cheaper seller on eBay (Item
160325644393).

Thanks for the tip. As soon as it stops raining I'll check the size of
my filler cap and order one!

They don't come in the (now rather old-fashioned) 2" size. I bought one a
year ago, because I could use the existing 4 holes for mounting it; however
my filler was 2" so the Fuelock thread wasn't retained by it, and the end
result didn't look secure enough without that. I used some plastic padding
to fill the space between the outer of the Fuelock thread and the inner of
the old filler thread, and everything seemed fine.

Six months later I pulled in to fill with diesel, and found that the Fuelock
had jammed. It took half an hour with a Mole wrench to free it. Checking
with the original chandlery revealed nothing wrong with the Fuelock body (a
new cap would screw into it with no problem) or with the Fuelock cap (it
would screw into a new Fuelock body with no problem) but somehow the
original body and cap just wouldn't work together; whenever they were
screwed together, the cap jammed in place and had to be released with a Mole
wrench or similar (which started making a bit of a mess of the cap).

The whole assembly, complete with the original brass filler, has now gone
back to Fuelock for investigation. On the phone their suggestion is that the
Plastic Padding must have expanded by enough to crush the plastic thread
slightly, but I'm not convinced. Meanwhile I have got a new 1.5" brass cap
with three hole fixing, so had to drill two new holes, and I am waiting to
see what Fuelock conclude.
