Just received the following from Nigel - if anyone can make it to the
gathering, with or without boat, I'm sure they'd be very welcome
(although unfortunately I probably can't!).

Andrew

From: "nigel hamilton" <sa...@thornmarine.co.uk>

"AFTER 5 YEARS, MATTHEW CORBETT COMES OUT OF RETIREMENT (WITHOUT
SOOTY)

Matthew Corbett whose "Sooty Show" was made in conjunction with
Granada TV for 6 years is part of an organised peaceful protest along
with MP Helen Southworth to try and stop Peel Holdings tearing down
Thorn Marine on the Bridgewater canal at Stockton Heath and building
yet more housing.

On Wednesday 29th October at midday there will be a gathering of
narrowboats (including "Wizard" a boat dedicated to the handicapped
people of the area) they will block the waterway with boats of all
shapes and sizes to bring attention to the Thorn Marine issue. There
will be lots of colour and noise whatever the weather and several
people who will be happy to talk to camera.

MP Helen Southworth says "I am very supportive of the campaign and am
happy to help promote the issue" Matthew Corbett says "it is insane to
take facilities away and replace them with houses" Sooty says ....
well very little really. (law prevents MC operating Sooty but
references and gags can be used)

Thorn Marine is run by Brian and Margaret Hamilton and their son
Nigel, all of whom will be out of a job and out of their home if the
plans go ahead. All the boaters of the area use Thorn Marine as a
boating facility ... toilet pump out/water point/chandlery and this
too will be lost if the plans go ahead.

This is a real David and Goliath story and we hope that a camera crew
will help us to strike a blow for the little guy.

For more technical information on the plans and the struggle and the
protest contact Nigel Hamilton on sa...@thornmarine.co.uk"

Presumably Matthew Corbett is the *only* person forbidden by law to
operate Sooty, so if everybody else took their childhood toy Sooties
along (I had one in the days of Matthew's dad Harry, but then I'm older
than most) they could no doubt create quite a photo-opportunity.

My Reply-To address *is* valid, though may not remain so for ever.

I have just returned from my local real ale pub & started talking
to a real ale enthousiast.
I asked where he came from & he turned out to be a Narrow boat
owner waiting for service at Thorne marine.
The amazing thing was that he didn't know anything about the problem.
(We did have a good chat about mathew Corbet's foibles)

Wondering why you used an active thread?
There are plenty of dead threads you could have used
if you wanted to test your reply button.
