Hi, please can anyone point me to a site with details of the history of
Springer Engineering. Also I would like to get hold of pictures, layouts
and specifications of the boats they produced.

I am particularly interested in their short narrowboats ie, the Waterbug.
can anyone let me have some pics of one?

Does the Springer owners club still exisit; the site at no longer exists.

yours sincerely,

Freddie Cooke.

I'm not aware of any sites with the history in one place. It's been
one of the things on my "to do" list for ages (along with the site for
my own Springer) - if anyone's interested I can post a very limited
history here. Individual sites may have pictures, layouts, etc. of
some of the boats.

I'm sure someone round here will do so.

No, as far as I'm aware! Basically the Owners Club never really got
much beyond the web site run by Mike Wooding. We held a rally (as part
of the IWA Northampton Rally) to try and drum up some interest but
whilst everyone was keen on the idea no-one actually wanted to do the
work! Mike pulled out largely due to selling his Springer.

How old is your Springer? I bought mine in 1972, hull and superstructure, my
wife reckoned 'Springer' didn't have a tape measure in his tool kit but we
have very happy memories of the boat which we deemed was great value for the
money. I sure he help more people take to the water than anyone, we even saw
a 'Springer' on the canals in Amsterdam. Sold it 5 years ago. Its up for
sale again on www.whiltonmarina.co.uk ( I don't like what they have done to
the paint job).
Cheers.

...............and you paid 3650 quid for it?
ISTR that is what my old man was quoted for the basic 36ft sailaway
.........and Sam meant sailaway, fitted, 10hp Ducatti, all soft furnishings,
ropes, windlii etc.........

Thank God he never bought a boat, or I would have ended up like Ian Clarke!

Badger was launched in June 1969. She's certainly one of the first 8
built (I know that 'cause I met the person who had Number 9 built
recently - that wad the first steel-top one and was built in about
October 1969).

I did a review of a Waterbug for Canal & Riverboat Magazine a few years ago.
I could scan this and attach it to a post if you like....... assuming I can
find it in my chaotic filing system!
