We have a PRM 80 gearbox that hangs on the back of a Beta Marine
powerplant in one of our day boats. After some abuse from a ham-fisted
hirer, it now goes into gear with a hell of a clonk in both forward
and reverse on tick-over.
To speed recovery I have tried to source a replacement box, but can't
get one for 8 weeks, at a cost of Ł770 + VAT.
Anyone got any other ideas for supply or repair. Your thoughts
appreciated.

I thought Calcutt normally had them x-stock!

My local PRM agent reckons he's checked and nothing's doing. But he
might be hoodwinking me. I'll double check. Thanks.

Am trying Bill Carver now, thanks.
And to reply to Roger Cansdale before his post appears here [reading
off Google Groups v2] [God, the is is getting complicated] yes it
might well be the drive plate that is b*ggered, but is that an
in-house replacement?
What I mean is, is it feasible to attempt it canalside, or would it be
better to replace the box, and get the b*ggered one sorted by an
expert on a bench somewhere, then keep that as a spare?

B*ggered on the Basy
Isn't "ham-fistedness" one of the measured risks you run when you take money
from hirers in exchange for them using your resource? Surely you measure the
risk and include it in the charge.
Patrick
Of course I do you smart arsed git!
What has this to do with my replacement problem????
Go back to tiddy winks.... it's safer.... Jeesh!!!!!
Update
Bill Carver did not reply to my email..... but good.... because I
subsequently found that a engine bearer nut had rattled its way down
the thread. Seems it had never been locked properly by the locking bolt
in the flange.
Having re-aligned the engine and gearbox the 'clunk' is far less
significant now £$->=
Fingers crossed..... back to normal service-ish.
Thanks for all (sensible) remarks and advice
