As the event closes , may I , and my family and local friends who are
members of our HNC, say a very big thank you to all those who have
made the effort to come to Huddersfield, and trust that we have not
let you down, and you have enjoyed your stay. Some have come the
diffuclt way (via Standedge) and I did visit many of them emerging
from the portal to Slaithwiaite last Sunday to greet and wish well
from our Society, meeting Sue Day bless her at lock 34 , also en route
down. The sight for many locals and ourselves at the number of craft
that were moored in double from almost the beginning of the Broad at
Aspley to as far away as Mirfield and Dewsbury , was most heartening
and such a joy! To think that the original members of HNC who started
by sheer determination against all odds, and hard work at clearing
sections, to the end result last year and the opening in May which is
being enjoyed by many from all over the country (and indeed the world)
is wonderous thanks indeed, and makes their efforts most worthwhile.
There is now much to do by BW in stage two, but, we all know, the
canal had to be open on 1st May with craft coming through Standedge
and making its way to the Broad, by the end of April,, and that was
achieved. Now for the rest of the upgrade, which will take place,
and we hope you all will visit us again, with less problems in the
future.

Thank you all

We thoroughly enjoyed the festival. I am afraid we came by road, as we do to
all Nationals.

We were very concerned about the local youths on the Thursday night, but the
security team responded immediately with patrols of the camp site.

The bar was excellent, with several beers that I have not seen down south.
(Chicken's tackle anyone?)

The Fireworks were brilliant, and seemed louder than last year. The jazz
band was excellent, in particular the young string bass player. The Saturday
night variety show was very good.

Thanks to all involved in organising it.

I am in the process of sorting out my pictures and putting them on
free.binaries.uk.waterways. I will also try and post them on my web sit,
although NTL are a bit tight with space.
