Has anyone any comments on the current range of Timberland hiking boots.

I remember seeing a consumer program once suggesting that the quality of teh
materials they use now is worse than it used to be.

Is this true?

Cheers,

Andy

You're dead right, they are just short-lived fashion items now!!!!

Can anyone recommend a better brand?

TIA

A couple of years ago I was told that Timberland footwear is now made in
Asia as opposed to the USA. The quality isn't supposed to be what it was.
This may not be relevant to hiking boots.

They are expensive fashion items, too much stitching for any real hill
walking. Stick to Meidl, Zamberlan, Scarpa etc.

Yea, but it all depends on what your end use is and what shape foot you
have !

First problem (hte end use...hiking/climbing/just rambleing) can be
sorted by a visit to a good outdoor shop and get some advice.

Good shops ? Field an Trek, Blacks, Cotswalds, Elis Brigham.....not
Millets unless you know exactly what you want. A good shop is one that
spends a lot of time training it's staff and cares that you go out with
the right product, not the most expencive.

The second proble (what shape feet you have...) can only be found out by
trying on lots of different brands and finding which one suits your feet
best.

Good brands include Zamberlan, Meindel, Scarpa and (depending on end
use) Brasher......plus loads more.

For a good pair, look to spend around 100ukp, but this depends on your
end use...which takes me back to your choice of shop....

Basicly a walking boot looks like a walking boot because that is the
best design for the job. Timberland look different becaust they are
aimed at the fasion market, not the outdoor market.

Hope this is of some help.

Jon.

Timberland boots are designed for the fasion market, even there 'hiking
boot' range. They are poorly thought out and cheeply made. Also they are
very expencive for what you get. In short, I hate them.

Good gracious. Did that really originate from a university address?

Some of the best writers and greatest minds have been lousy spelers.

You obviously don't know how little you know about dyslexia :-)

The ability to spell has little to do with intellectual ability...

...and even less to do with walking. Please keep on-topic.

Maths? You seem to have lost count of your question

Of course it doesn't, and you really shouldn't mind
my gentle jibes. Consider it character building.
