Lower Eskdale 2-day backpack report/photos uploaded from Saturday and
Sunday.

A circuit of fells and tarns around the superb Eskdale, many of them
delightful and little visited. In particular, the lovely collection of
tarns on Great How are virtually unknown and the fell is trackless apart
from the odd sheep trod: now I wonder why that is - answers on an
e-postcard.

This was the fastest transition from Winter to Spring we have ever seen.
Last week we were pitched in snow and bitter winds wearing all our
insulating layers, this week we were eating outside the tent in base layers.

Report and photos uploaded.

Probably because it's a relatively remote area of the Lakes that isn't
very easy to get to compared to the more popular places. Enjoy that whilst
it lasts!

Actually my answer was simply that AW never mentioned it - no further
explanation required. :)

We certainly will, along with other pockets of remaining wilderness.

Good point, although the reason I've never been there is simply its awkward
location (I'm up around the Lakes most weekends, rather than staying in
Manchester, but since that involves my parents' house it fixes the location
somewhat).

A good way of enjoying anywhere in the Lakes, in the middle of summer at
least, is to not set off until about 4 pm. It's quiet, and you get much
more interesting light than the bland middle of the day stuff. Very early in
the morning might be just as good, but I don't have the willpower for that.
