Thought you'd appreciate an amusing encounter last week at Inversnaid. We'd
spent the saturday night camping down by Rob Roy's Prison (a big rock, I
think?), and walked back to the Car Park at Inversnaird Hotel.
In the car park there is one of those new gas powered midgy magnets, about
the size of a large shoe box with a funnel underneath to suck in the midgys.
When we approached it, there was a party of german hikers, bottles open,
trying to fill their bottles from the funnel underneath? They had reached
the conclusion between themselves that this was a 'free repellent
dispenser'!?!? We were tempted, but explained that this was in fact a hoover
which collected the creatures. Their leader then asked if this 'hoover'
removed all midgys from this area of Loch Lomond. This is like asking in
death row
We really got the feeling that this was probably going to be the last trip
they would be making to this area, midgys are often the only down side of
walking over there. Last week the midgys down Loch Lomond were absolutely
ferocious.
