Wanting a bit of extra exercise today I decided to do a Corbett by
bike without motorised transport. Setting off from Crieff I was soon
at Newton Bridge in the Sma' Glen and then took the track up Glen
Almond. About an hours easy cycling brought me to the snub of the hill
just east of Lechrea where I left the bike near some sheep fencing
enclosures. I then took the zig zag track up the nose of Lechrea Hill
and onto the summit plateau. the track shown on my 1989 Landranger 52
ends about 757354 but in fact continues on over the hill for at least
another kilometre and possibly further. I left the track just south of
the 819 spot and took a bearing to CnB. I soon found a line of fence
posts and these cut through all the way to the summit cairn ! Easy
routefinding when the mist is blowing in ! A quick, stop and a drink
and I was soon on the way back down. From Newton Bridge my times were
3 hours to the summit ( bike and hike ) and a further 2 hours back to
the bridge ! A nice hill but perhaps made all too easy by the track
going all the way to within 1k of the summit.

Did this hill a few weeks ago on a longish walk from Invergeldie in Glen
Lednock. Thought it looked a good walk on the map.
However at the end of the track the marked path which descends to the River
Almond has more or less disappeared now. Managed to arrive at the summit of
Creagan na Beinne just before the rain moved in, giving me a rather wet walk
back.

Barry.

Lovely from the north too, especially the views of Lawers from around
Claggan.

Claggan is one of the best places I know in Scotland for flowers
around midsummer.

Only been up Glen Almond for Auchnafree Hill, and its quite a shock to
find such a big sequestered glen so near the lowlands.. I bet the
heather was a treat.

Been out corbetting again myself.. Down to 10 now..

The most surreal thing was that somebody has cultivated a small golf
course right up the Glen about 3 k past Auchnafree. In fact he was on
a small tractor mowing the greens as I biked back out, bizzarre !

correctly
