I Need a new GPS as my old Garmin eTrex Vista has about had it, reason been
on a trip abraded I left it in a vehicle exposed to the sun (silly I know)
and the clue holding the rubber around the unit melted, I have heard of
others with the same problem. I thought I had repaired this with two sided
adhesive tape thinking the waterproof seal beneath was still in tacked. Alas
this was not to be and dampness has since rendered the unit unusable at
times until it dries out again. I have been more than happy with my Garmin
Vista's performance otherwise and think I would be even happier with a new
Garmin eTrex Vista HCx, BUT! I must admit I am concerned about the glue
problem, can anyone tell me if this problem has been sorted on the Garmin
eTrex Vista HCx or could the glue used still a problem ?

Thanks for any help or advice,

Having experienced the exact same problem with my eTrex Legend, I contacted
Garmin with this same question. While not answering the question directly,
the CS rep just said the construction was the same in the new HCX units. So
I opted not to go that route. I have not, however, seen any posting from
HCX owners experiencing the problem, so maybe things are better.

This is a very popular unit and has been in use for several years. I have
three friends that have them and none has experienced any glue problem.
When my Legend went bad I bought a 76CS (discontinued). It has a rubber
band also, but has never had a problem after 5 years. The problem is an
eTrex one, not Garmin, in general. The SiRF Star III chip in the 60CSX and
76CSX gives it at least equal sensitivity to the "H" chip in the eTrex line.

Thanks for this always best to get the lowdown on something from a user or
someone who has friends using the particular product in question.
Thanks again,

The 60CSx looks to me as if it is not glued together, but screwed, wi'
six screws holding the two halves of the body together on a gasket.

My only problem with it (you have to find fault, don't you?) is that the
knobs/buttons are too small and close together to use with gloves on!

My basic etrex (yellow) had the same problem some years ago. Garmin
Germany replaced it for free although there was no more warranty. The
new one is fine, I've never had any trouble again.

Thanks CA.
Could you tell me how long you have had your new etrex and has it had much
rough use i.e. in hot , cold, and wet weather.
