It does tend to be heavier than the civvy kit, IMHO.
Other drawback is that the kit may well have had a hard life before
being sent for sale.
Watch out for Gurkha kit! They are nice people, but they are small.

I've got a pair of DPM boot liners off ebay for 7 quid. They work a
treat and are far better and cheaper than 'Sealskinz'.

I've used a lot of army surplus gear in the past, not so much in recent
years. As Richard pointed out, it's usually heavier, but on the plus side,
it's more hard wearing too. It's also cheap if you're on a budget.
I've bought many pairs of combat trousers over the years. Unlike most other
stuff, they're pretty light and they have lots of pockets and tie strings at
the bottom. Not waterproof but you don't have to worry about ripping them
like many modern expensive lightweight versions.
I also had a great pair of Dutch army boots, very light, unlike the German
ones. Only cost me £12 and lasted for years. Very high ankles and completely
waterproof, great for wading through streams and bogs. Don't know if they're
still available any more.
If you're selective about what you buy, and check them first to make sure
they're in decent condition, you can pick up some good bargains. Also good
if you need heavy duty gear that will take some punishment, for example if
you're crawling around a cave getting really mucky.

I have a pair of Gortex overtrousers I got online (I think I posted a
link here a while back). They're great, probably a bit heavier than
branded ones but cheap. You just can't have a problem wearing DPM :)
Thanks folks

I doubt many stuck up twats here have ever experience military spec
apparel.
Very heavy duty and not fashionable, but you wont get better quality.
If you don't mind the weight, or the looks. Whatever you buy army
surplus it will last most of us a lifetime.
I'd rather be stuck on the moors with nato parka, than a Berghaus any
day. Would I go shopping in it? Nope!

Avoid the rush at the last judgement. Be converted now instead!
PRAYER FOR A NATION
When Pastor Joe Wright, of Central Christian Church, was asked
to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting
the usual politically correct generalities.
But what they heard instead was this:
Heavenly Father, we come before You today to ask Your forgiveness
and seek your direction and guidance.
We know Your Word says,
‘Woe on those who call evil good,’ but that’s exactly what we have done.
We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and inverted our values.
We confess that:
We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it pluralism;
We have, worshipped other gods and called it multiculturalism;
We have endorsed perversion and called it an alternative lifestyle;
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery;
We have neglected the needy and called it self-preservation;
We have killed our unborn and called it choice;
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem;
We have abused power and called it political savvy;
We have coveted our neighbour’s possessions and called it ambition;
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression;
We have ridiculed the time-honoured values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, 0 God, and know our hearts today; try us and see if there be some wicked way in us;
cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have
been sent here by the people of Kansas, and who have been ordained by You, to govern this great state.
Grant them Your wisdom to rule and may their decisions direct us to the centre of Your will. I ask it in the name of Your Son, the Living Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.”

Oops forget the above, I didn't realise anyone had replied. Apologies
to all concerned.
