Hi,

I would be grateful if anyone could give me locations of camp sites in the
lake district.

I've stayed at Dungeon Ghyll, but apart from that I'm struggling!

I know its a big area, but any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance,

Jim

PS : I've searched high & low for one single site on the web which will give
me camp sites/ bunk barns/hostels in Yorkshire, Lakes, Wales & Scotland but
can't find one. I think I might of found a use for my 'free 5mb of web
space' that my ISP gives me - Anyone got any thoughts on content????

Baysbrown farm campsite chapel stile, langdale

rosthwaite campsite, borrowdale

All are pretty basic (cold water no showers) but cheap, quiet and
friendly, unlike the dungeon ghyll.

There is also one at the Grange (South of Keswick) - Hollows Farm (I
think) again, basic but it is there. Also one just outside Keswick, on
the farside if arriving via Penrith.

Have you tried camping barns? They can be almost as cheap, but much
nicer if it is raining.

Good Luck

Sykeside Camp Site, by Brothers Water (has a Hartsop phone number). On
site bar and Brothers Water Inn by site entrance, both serve food, but a
bit expensive (2ukp per person + 2ukp per tent + 2ukp per car, even then
they charge 20p for a hot shower!).

Otherwise I'd suggest trying the National Trust sites.

You can also try Tarn Foot (NY346041). Again, pretty basic with a cold
tap, a toilet and little else. It's marked on my map as a caravan site,
but it only had tents when I was last there.

Can get *very* busy and noisy at peak times but otherwise
a good bet. Superb for direct access to both the Helvelyn
and High Street areas

Also, The Quiet Site at Watermillock which *can* be quiet
but suffers from the same rowdyness that other places do
in high season. Popular with families. A more luxurious
version of Sykeside.
