Hi

I am trying to raise awareness of a valuable free resource which is
available at http://www.old-maps.co.uk.

The site contains a search engine (place name, modern day address or
Easting/Northing coordinate) which allows you to quickly locate first
edition 1:10,560 scale Ordnance Survey maps of England, Scotland and
Wales.

Once located, the first edition 1:10,560 scale maps can be viewed free
of charge - simply click on the map to re-centre it on any point. You
can also zoom in/out - there are 5 different levels of zoom. Once you
have found your exact area of interest, you can use an "Enlarged View"
option to view a large, clear image of the area.

The site also contains an option to buy historical maps. If you click
the appropriate option, the site will present you with an "on-line
store" - containing 1:10,560 and 1:2,500 scale pre-war maps centred on
the area you were browsing in the free viewing area.

This site does not require any plug-ins or Java to run on your
browser. It will run on most versions of Internet Explorer (5 and
above) and Netscape (4 and above) - plus others such as Opera. It
only requires that session cookies and Javascript are enabled in order
to run.

www.old-maps.co.uk is a must for anyone looking for historical maps on
the internet!
