This was planned as a short circuit in the North Arans since we had to be back earlyish on Saturday,
but turned out a lot shorter still. The snow was knee deep not far above valley level with thigh
deep patches on higher slopes. There was no trace of a previous trail and nothing to follow. That
ascent was the most exhausting 2 miles we have ever done and we pitched before even reaching the
summit.

It was nevertheless the finest deep snow scenery we have seen for years, a great pitch and sunset
to round it off.

Report / photos uploaded.

I've never gone up that way but each time I drive down through Bala I
think it looks really inviting across the lake.

There's a little lake NW below the summit of Aran Benllyn, maybe you've
walked or camped on top of it in all that snow! Great TR and pictures!

We usually ascend from that side, mainly due to easy access and good car parking in Llanuwchllyn
actually. The North ridge is long and gentle overall and is really better suited to a descent. The
ascents from Cwm Cwyarch are grander.

We know the one you mean, we have eyed it up before as a possible pitch. One day no doubt!.
