Hello!

As the rain and winds swirl, I've been cheering myself up by thinking
ahead to next summer... and my thoughts have turned to the Pembrokeshire
coast path.

A browse of Amazon hasn't turned up any promising guide books to
Pembrokeshire (not just guides to the coast path), just general Wales
guides. On the map, Haverfordwest, Milford Haven and Pembroke all look
like they'd be reasonable choices for a base (b&b, not camping). Are any
of those three particularly nice (or particularly unpleasant!) towns?

From a transport point of view, I assume it doesn't make much difference
and there will be good roads between all of them.

It looks like there are three headlands that the path takes in, one
beyond Pembroke and then two either end of St Brides Bay. Is any of these
especially worth going for?

And other suggestions welcomed!

Cheers

John

The National Trail guide is likely the best for the coast path, but I
don't know of any general Pembrokeshire guide books.

Personally I would avoid Milford Haven. It is very industrial around
there. Haverfordwest is inland so I'd go for Pembroke. It's a nice town
with a large castle.

If you are planning linear walks there is a network of buses linking
points along the coast path. Some are more frequent but if I recall most
run once or twice per day so if you are driving, best to drive to your
walk end and take the bus to the start so you can relax without bothering
about timings.

Having done most of the path many times, I have my personal best bits.

National Trail Gide by Brian John is excellent

there are many general guides to Pembrokeshire

you do not say whether ou are doing the whole pathor just bits.

avoid Milford, there are so many Band B's on the path, you are spoilt for
choice.

the shuttle buses are wonderful, just google for the times

FWIW
my best bit is St Nons to St Justinians and back tu St Davids, we have done
it many times, and love the views across to Ramsay.

Go to Google Maps.
Place your start point at Haverfordwest and the end point somewhere else.
Click Get Directions.

Then drag the end point around the map and you'll see that practically the
entire Pembrokeshire coastline is within 20 miles of it, by road. It's the
ideal hub from a road network point of view.

It's a pleasant enough little town, not on the coast, but Broad Haven is
only 6 miles (12 minutes) away.

I'd recommend the area around St Govans Head in the south and St Davids Head
in the northwest.

Click on More then tick Photos to see photos all around the area.
