Help:

I bought this thing last year to go on holiday and to be honest, have hardly
used it since.

I have now come to play with it and find that although I can download still
images using the DV Studio 2 software that cam with it, there does not
appear to be anyway to download digital video.

Having done a search on the Panasonic web site, this model does not seem to
exist.

There is a strange looking port under a cover on the front next to the IR
window. If this a firewire port or is it something else?

Any help is welcome here.

First thing is: don't panic.
I recently bought the NV-DS25, which is the same camera as yours but
with a few bits and pieces extra. (Nothing too significant. A
MutliMediaCard for recording stills being the main thing.)
I was quite happy initially being able to play video through the TV and
to record such on VHS, and then I decided I would like to capture stuff
on the PC.

My PC is archaic in PC terms (ie. 3 years old, running Windows 95) and I
bought it as a "bundle" from Time. The bundle included a "PCTV" card,
which in video card terms is utterly ancient. The good thing about this
is that the "PCTV" card captures the video images from the camera
perfectly well for my needs (I'm no professional; all I want is some
decent shots of the kid.)

Under that strange rubber flappy thing on your camera (on the left, as
you look from the front) are a number of ports. If you use the jack-plug
type thing and plug it into the "AV OUT/PHONES" socket, and then plug
the other end into the video card (which you will have bought and
installed by now) "AV INPUT" socket, you'll be able to download (or
capture) to your heart's content.

This is a strange and wonderful world we're in, and as you can probably
tell I'm no expert on these things. If you want someone to talk to who
is only a few days ahead of you in trying to understand these things
then please feel free to email me and we'll try to suss it out together.

That goes for anyone else too. Sometimes, too much info is just that.

I saw that we have the same camcorder, but I don't have DV Studio 2 and I
wonder if you maybe knew is there a place on the Internet from where I can
download that program.

Thanks
