It is indeed pretty quiet round here lately.
I think many seem to have buggered off to various web forums, but I could be
wrong and you are correct! Certainly my kids wouldn't know Usenet or
Newsgroups from a hole in the ground as it were ;>)
Still, I managed to finally get in to Monkton Farleigh recently
(legitimately, on business). Interesting place that is. Especially 18
district, which is pretty much as it was originally except for the rails in
the floor being ripped up.
Thanks also for the headsup on Rhydymwyn. Pity I couldn't make that date.
Always been on the must visit list that has.
Cheers,
JB
Yeah, I'm permanently in the US now, and there's not a lot of UK
subterranean stuff over here ;)

Which prompts the question... where to?

I've been a wee bit busy, frying other fish... such as:

But I still have a lot of material on Scottish hydro that I intend to put online
when I can get a round tuit.

If you think this group is quiet, you should see uk.rec.caving !
As time passes the nature of Usenet groups evolves and a lot of
routine enquiries move elsewhere, so the ratio of watchers to posters
increases. It does not mean the group no longer has any function.
While I am posting...
Over the past quarter of a century most of my underground grovellings
have been solo. Next year I want to revisit a system I have not been
in for almost forty years. What's the best way to recruit a couple of
desperate accomplices - should I join that Subterraenea Brittanica
thing?

Depends on what you want to do and where you live
If it's caving
http://www.caving.uk.com/Resources/Pages/frame.html
gives links to most UK caving clubs. A club local to you is quite likely to
exist.
If it's mining
http://www.namho.org then go to members
gives links to UK mining groups
and if it's Cold War / other war etc then join Subterraenea Brittanica who
have an excellent website.

Not a cave nor a mine but a man made half mile traverse beneath a
small town, so subbrit I guess.

I would certainly agree with this - it is a most excellent reference site,
well maintained and in a logical order. The Darkplaces site is well,
interesting, and includes a forum, but seems to lack a decent search
facillity. Perhaps this is intentional?
