Hi,
Does anyone have information about the bunker supposed to be at Waterton
industrial estate, Bridgend, South Wales?? CND Protestors tried to stop the
building of it in the 1970-1980s (I think these are the right dates)

Are you confusing the Waterton bunker with the RGHQ at Brackla Industrial
Estate around 1 to 2 miles to the north?

No,
I am not confusing it with the brackla ones, it is in a book called 'H Bomb
on Ogwr' which tells you what would happen if one landed in Ogwr. It shows a
picture of the bunker, with that old gas tank near the police HQ in the
background (it's that old rusting one with a rusted top and a grey bottom). The
book is avaliable in the library in Parc street, bridgend.

The Police HQ has a bunker underground the main building where the antennae
stands, but this is some distance away from the tank and is in Bridgend
industrial estate. Waterton ind. est. is the estate where the Ford engine
plant and Diaplastics are situated. There is a large council maintenance
depot there with structures dating back to the WW2 usage of the site. Who
publicised the book? How close to the gas tank is the bunker? Any grid refs?

Can we have some more details on the book please....my local library
can't trace it via the inter library loan. Need an author and ISBN
number if possible.

A book about a bomb on Ogwr sounds like it might have been
written by one of the peace/nuclear free zone outfits in the
'80s. These tended to have little in the way of new hard facts.

After taking a look around the suggested site of this bunker, there is
nothing which looks remotely like a bunker there. The only buildings which
spring to mind (but are demolished now) are several WW2 magazines in the
centre of the main dual carriageway between Sony and Bayer. They were
demolished to make way for several car parks during the late '80's early
'90's. As for the book, could it be "No Bunkers Here" by Tony Simpson,
Published by Glamorgan CND in 1982? I have not read the book, but could it
really be targetting RGHQ 8.2 or maybe a council emergency centre in
Bridgend?
