...seems that the site owners are allowing an Airsoft company to hold
skirmishes in and around the bunker, and have previously stripped much
of the metalwork (ducting, etc) from large parts of the underground
site to be sold for scrap.
Shame if the site is going to be further damaged like this, and sounds
as if no more public tours of the site will be conducted.
That said, Drakelow seems to have become more secretive since it
stopped being a government site in the early 90s!! For some reason
the identity of the site owners seems to be a massive secret and the
group who were looking after and restoring the bunker as much as
possible always seemed very 'anti' to any approaches to get involved
and help out.
Airsoft should not cause any damage. There are quite a few sites that
allow such activities.
If the owner's identity is of that much imterest a request to the Land
Registry should provide all the info for a small fee. Otherwise a trawl
through the Local autiority planning applications might be fruitful.
