I think that newsgroups are a dying beast. Several others that I look
at have gone from 50 postings a day to 3 a month or less. Most people
that I mention this to have no idea what newsgroups are. They know
about Facebook…
There are quite a few usenet groups which I frequent which are very busy.
I think the demise of this one is down to the fact that many of us who used
to be active are now at the age where we don't get about so much!
Another factor is that it is of help if you can post a few pictures, which
is where the forums come into their own. I am staggered by the quality of
some of the shots on 28days later, for example.
Another factor might be that most of the really interesting stuff which came
to light in the 80's is now either documented or smashed up. I was reading
Nick Catford's book on bunkers and sad to say I noted that so many
interesting places have simply been demolished, etc.
Les.
...and a number of lurkers like me, hanging around in the vain hope
that something interesting might turn up one day.
No matter, it only takes a few seconds to check.
Here :-)

Boiko: Ukraine to reduce purchase of Russian gas to 12 billion cubic meters
Aug 22 at 19:33 | Interfax-Ukraine
Over the next five years, Ukraine will manage to produce about 27 billion
cubic meters of natural gas per year and purchase about 12 billion cubic
meters of gas from Russia, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy
Boiko has said.
"We're planning to increase our own production from 20 billion [cubic
meters] to 27 billion cubic meters in five years, and taking into account a
program for energy saving and the replacement of gas with coal, we are
planning to buy 12 billion cubic meters of Russian gas in five years," he
told Channel 5 on Monday.
Boiko said he was confident that in 2012, the country would manage to reduce
natural gas consumption by 10 billion cubic meters.
