Apropos a post passim, I've been searching for lyrics to Dvorak's
"Humoresque" that I'm certain I sang in a school choir competition in the
1960s. But Google can't find it (yet).

I know two other sets of lyrics, the railway song

#Passengers will please refrain from passing water while the train
#Is standing at the station (I love you)
[other lyrics are available]

and The Barron Knight's African version

#Watching changes in it's history
#Africa is now a mystery...

The lines I remember go something like

#Once there was a little breeze that <something, "wandered lightly"?> through
the trees
#In search of something [?] it might <play?>
...
#Swiftly replying, soon they were flying
#Over the [?] and ?

Ring a bell with anyone?

Once there was a little song
That softly sweetly hummed along
and hoped to meet a comrade on its way
Once there was a little breeze
That wandered idly through the trees
In search of someone fond of play
Soon came a meeting
Then came a greeting
Come can't we roam together please
Gladly replying, soon they were flying
Off across the fields and through the green waving trees

Old threads never die, they just await a GG user to dig them up.

That sounds like it, though it's not loudly ringing bells.

Thank you.

I remember singing in a school choir.
Once there was a little song etc
then the next part was
Soon came a meeting, then came a greeting
then finally but I haven't got it all:
Soon the song could fly alone
And soon the breeze a voice had grown....

They wandered thus the whole day through."

Can someone help me with the missing lines please.
I have the whole English version by D. Millar Craig:
"May has set my heart a-singing etc ...."
but I like my school version best.

My dad sang this to us before bedtime in my childhood. Beautiful lyrics using the Humoresque music.

I am singing this to my kids now and they love it.

Here is the most complete version I found on Internet which I have stumbled by.

Once there was a little song that
Softly sweetly hummed along,
And hoped to meet a comrade on it's way
Once there was a little breeze that
Wandered idly thru the trees
In search of someone fond of play.

Soon came a meeting,then came a greeting
Come, can't we roam together, please?
Gladly replying, soon they were flying
Off o'er the hills and green trees.

And so they gaily sailed along,
The little breeze, the little song
And each one taught each other all they knew
Till the song could fly alone and
Till the breeze a voice had grown
They frolicked thus, the whole day through

When the song sings low as it goes a-straying
When a far-off song like a breeze floats by
Think of how they plannes it
With each other in their playong
Taught the one to sing and the other to fly

So perhaps this little song will
Spread it's wings and fly along
And maybe someone else will hear it thru
And, perhaps, a little breeze
May listenin an hour of ease
And learn to sing it with us too.

Come, set it ringing, come set it singing
Over the hills and far away
Then let it wander thither and yonder
Who knows we'll meet some fine day.

So don't forget the little song that
Softly sweetly hummed along
And hoped to meet a comrade on it's way
Don't forget the little breeze that
Wandered idly through the trees
Nor what they learned that happy day.

The other song he would sing to us was The Four Leaf Clover, words by Ella Higginson and music by Leila M Brownell. Dedicated to Mr. Clarence T Wendell. An inspiring message for children in their future quest in life.
