Hello,

Does anyone know the outcome of the incident at capernwray this morning
(Sunday)?

My buddy and I were just about to stride in from the jetty when a woman
diver was seen to be having
difficulty with here conscious but distressed buddy at the 6m platform off
the "Reef". Many of us looked on thinking it was a Rescue Diver student
drill. When here buddy slipped under the surface it was apparent there was a
real emergency. Divers in the water close by went to assist and recovered
the casualty who had sunk.

Help was summonsed from the emergency phone and staff were at the scene very
quickly. Staff and a paramedic performed CPR for a very long time and the
air ambulance arrived. However, the casualty was eventually taken by road.
Judging by the casual departure of the ambulance I suspect that the outcome
was another tragedy. I hope I'm wrong.

We abandoned our days diving feeling numb and shocked.

Whatever the outcome, the staff (and divers who assisted) deserve great
praise for their excellent effort.

My mate assisted in the rescue, and checked later with staff, who contacted the
hospital. I understand that when he left he had a cardiac output and had
started to breathe on his own. Obviously the Hospital will not give out
details, but we believe he is still alive. I hope he makes a full recovery

the diver mentioned is now on a resperator in hospital. the prognosis is not
particuarly good. the diver who raised the body has commented that he/she
was down for a substantial time and that he/she had to be raised by the suit
inflator because the direct feed to the stab was not connected. the reason i
know a little about this incident is that the people who performed the
rescue are members of my diving club.
