I have spent most of this morning trying to track down two entries on my
last credit card bill to "AMERISUITES LONDON E4 GB" which although for only
relatively small amounts were enough to worry me.
Its actually for Worldapy who the Scout Info Centre use for internet
purchases.
Amerisuites is actually a Hotel Group, and so you can imagine what we were
thinking seeing amounts of £30 is quid mid week! Somebody was using our
account to subsidise and affair or feed their face!!
I was THAT close to cancelling the card when it suddenly struck me, E4...
E4... (Big Brother? .. no... ) GILWELL!!!
That was a morning wasted, please watch out if you make purchases
******
INFO CENTRE: ** PLEASE** can you ask these people to put something relevant
on future transactions please, not the name of an American hotel group!! I
was trying to have a scout free bank holiday and this did not go down well
with the boss (in fact she has gone out in a huff!)!
Alternatively accept payment via good old PAYPAL which as I understand it is
the most widely used Internet payment system in the UK now and would quite
clearly display where the money went to!

I've used a few companies with Worldpay and they've always shown
correctly. Could it be that Amerisuites are the organisation that
manage the Gilwell conference centre, and they just ran it through
that?
That said, in these days of credit card fraud (I've been done twice),
it does rank somewhere between a bit silly and irresponsible.

Must admit that when I have bought through the SA it has been through Scout
Shops at Lancing who also use WorldPay but have never noticed that iut was
not a payment to the SA - possibly a one off through the wrong account by
some inexperienced operator?

Two payments three weeks apart, it could be some kind of lookup error at the
bank I suppose.
"Dear Customer,
We have been informed by Barclaycard Merchant Services who process our
online payments, that due to an error on their part, anyone who has
purchased items from the Scout Information Centre online catalogue in the
last couple of months may have 'Amerisuites UK' appearing on their bank
statement instead of the usual reference to The Scout Association or the
Scout Information Centre. This may lead some customers to question the
validity of the payment.
Unfortunately this error may also have affected anyone who recently made an
online payment to the World Friendship Appeal, National Conference or
Gilwell Park Activity Centre.
Barclaycard Merchant Services have assured us that it is a 'printing error'
only and that your payment to The Scout Association has not been affected in
any way. Neither have your personal or card details been passed on to anyone
else. They have since taken the necessary steps to ensure the correct
statement narrative appears for future purchases and payments.
Whilst Barclaycard Merchant Services have admitted responsibility, we
apologise for any inconvenience this has caused to our customers.
If you have any queries, please contact the Scout Information Centre at
