Just replacing a masthead Navman W100 wind speed and direction indicator.
Transducer cable has a 2cm dia plug on it.
Do I have to feed thos through 2cm holes drilled top and bottom of mast and
in the deck?
The manual says "don't cut or shorten the cable", but then they supply me
with a junction box int he kit.
E-mailed Plastimo (who market it) with no response, waitng for Navman in NZ
to reply.
Anyone know the answer please?

There is only one reason they don't want you to cut their cable;
warrenty. They just hate all the troubles they get from unexperianced
people. If you know how to do a good cable job, do it. Otherwise ask a
friend who knows.

I cut mine and rejoined it - that was 3 years ago and it's still working
fine.

Just to echo the others, I cut mine when I installed it, and that means when
we unstep the mast we don't have to take it all out again. I drilled a
small hole in the coachroof and put the junction box in a handy spot on the
bulkhead in the heads. All I need to do when we re-step the mast is pop the
wire down the hole again, and re-connect. Simple. I scratched my head for
ages though at their advice not to cut the wire!
Cheers

This seems to be the definitive answer.
Good to be able to get a response from the manufacturers over the net. Would
make me buy from them again.
Thanks for the advice.
The lead is for the chop.

Thank you for choosing NAVMAN product and for contacting NAVMAN product
support.

You have discovered an error in our W100 user manual. It is, of course,
perfectly acceptable to cut or shorten the Wind masthead transducer cable.

The depth transducer cable can not be cut or shortened, and unfortunately
this instruction ended up the Wind user manual instead of the Depth user
manual. Please accept our apologies for causing you this confusion.

Best Regards

I can't find in the manual the meaning of D1, D2 or D3 during the calibration mode . I can't change the value of the speed, and I think that the W100 is in simulation mode. Can you help me ?
Thanks

I took the liberty of correcting the subject. Copying a 12 year old
subject won't help....
You have Page A1? In my online copy[1], it reads (read # as a tiny bell):

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

Press and hold both the # and ^ keys for 3 seconds.

Wind direction damping. The damping level is displayed on the
lower section of the LCD (d0, d1, d2 or d3). The V and ^ keys
are used to adjust the damping to the required value. To exit
press the # key. The damping levl is saved in NVM.

Momentarily press both the # and ^ keys.

Wind speed calibration. The upper section of the display will
show `CA'. The lower section will display wind speed. The V
and ^ keys are used to adjust the wind speed to the required
value. To exit press the # key. The results of the calibration
process are saved in NVM.

Momentarily press both the # and ^ keys.

Wind vane alignment procedure. The lower section of the display
will show `CA'. The upper section will display wind direction.
The V and ^ keys are used to align the displayed wind direction
with the wind vane. To exit press the # key. The results of
the calibration process are saved in NVM.

Press and hold both the # and ^ keys for 6 seconds. During this
period the display will flash. At the end of the 6 second period
the display with show `LE'.

Linearisation procedure. The lower section of the display will
show `LE'. The wind vane must be rotated through two complete
revolutions to allow the W100 to perform the automatic
linearisation process. Press the # key to exit. The results
of the linearisation are saved in NVM.

So if you see D0/D1/D2/D3, I think you pressed # and ^ for three seconds.

Press (again), but only for a short moment, to get into speed
calibration mode.

If you press it again, you start the alignment procedure,

and if you press them for six seconds, into the linearization
procedure.
