Does anyone know how to reset the MMSI number in a Cobra F55 DSC Radio? It's
often a sequence of key pushes and power-up procedure.

My Cobra F55's manual says to return it to the supplying dealer....

Personally, I think that the manufacturers have taken advantage of the
situation of us having to enter the ship MMSI - when I sell my current boat
I want to take my VHF with me, and that'll mean I too will be approaching my
supplying dealer....

The manual is here
http://www.cobra.com/pdf/marine/MRF55-English.pdf
And it looks like Arturo is absolutely correct unless someone knows of a
Hack? The manual also claims ALL DSC radios have this requirement. I just
think they do not want any trade in used radios.

well given that a fair proportion of the 2'nd hand trade was without
the owners permission.

Now I wonder where I can get some new valves for my old navico

The course tutor with whom I did my DSC training did mention that all class
D DSC radios will have to be returned for MMSI re-entry.

What can you say? I guess it is jobs for the boys! (AKA Agents)

Yes I take you point that it could help with crime prevention but
unfortunately criminals seem to manage to defeat most safeguards quite
quickly. It didn't take very long for video player hacks for removing
regional coding to be published. Maybe the same will happen with DSC.
