Anyone care to explain what could be wrong? My oil pressure alarm comes on
at low RPM. When I increase RPM, it switches of. Oil level is normal.
Anything else that could be checked easily?

Thanx

-Oil too thin? correct grade? correct temperature?
-Bearings worn?
-Oil pump worn?
-Relief valve not seating properly?
-Filter blocked?
-oil pressure sender unit faulty? (unlikely, in view of what you say)

Suggest you fit an oil pressure gauge and find out what pressure you
actually have, it may be horribly low even at higher revs - just enough to
stop the alarm. Until that's fitted, I wouldn't run the engine again.

Graham.

First try a new oil pressure switch, it's quite likely that it is
faulty.

you do not _neccessarily_ have a major problem, particularly if the
bearings are not audibly hammering and this is a recent (in terms of
engine hours) problem, however the first thing you need is hard data.

fit a half decent (capillary, not electric/electronic) oil pressure
gauge to your motor, note the following.

cold cranking oil pressure
cold tickover oil pressure
warm tickover oil pressure

then increase revs in 500 rpm jumps and note oil pressure.

at this point you effectively have an accurate chart of oil pressure
vs revs, and also cold cranking pressure...

from here, aided by a half decent engineer, you can make a sensible
and reliable diagnosis... I would avoid any other engine use apart
from this test though.....

as an aside, if you had a real motor like a cat, you could merely send
them an oil sample, from which they could tell you for example which
bearing was wearing (they "dope" the shells) before you crack a
bolt... even though you do not have a"real" engine, there are several
places where you can get an oil analysis done, and unless you are on a
very tight budget it can be a useful, informative and worthwhile
exercise.

Turns out it was diesel in the engine oil, due to defunct injectors, due to
trying to run the engine on drinking water a couple of weeks before...

thanx for your answers

be extremely cautious.......

_unless_ the injector BODIES were leaking AND the injectors are fully
housed INSIDE a rocker cover this is not a valid reason for sump
dilution.....

have you physically removed and checked the lift pump?
