Hi all,

Anyone had any success in dealing with a lock up on the Maycomm EM27?
Have one which worked fine, both in original UK 80 channel mode and
expanded. However, one day it started playing up by not producing any
audio out (as if the mike wasn't connected) then shortly afterwards got
totally locked up. Front panel reset fails to reboot it. It did this
once before, after being powered down for about 2 weeks. Only got the
problem to resolve by setting the jumpers back to original spec, then
powering up. This forced it to reboot, and it worked fine again.
Needless to say, this don't work this time.....

Any suggestions folks?

Cheers

This happened to one I did some time ago. The guy said it locked up and
previously did weird things. He left it overnight and had a standard mic
wired which cured it. I think when its adapted pressing one of the function
keys on the mic starts it off..........still, its a pain without the orig.
mic :o(

I got one of these a couple of days ago as a fixer upper. The audio out
and the front panel control functions were intermittent. I stripped the
unit right down and found that the front panel is connected to the main
board by solder pads only and that some of these joints were cracked.
I took off all the solder and replaced the connections with short
wire links and all has been fine since. Personally speaking I think
the original method of fixing the panel pcb to the main unit is very
poor. The main board has "REV 5" printed on it, I presume this refers
to the revision number

Nidge.

Nidge,

Your a genius!

Had another look in the set, and Lo!, cracked solder pads between the front panel board and the volume pot. Redid them, but
this did not fix the lock up (boo hoo!) After much faffing about, it seemed to reset. This faffing about included moving
jumpers back and forth and shorting accros the 2 reset pads on the back of the front panel board, in various combinations of
power on/power up/power off/blindly pressing panel buttons in desperation. Anyway, it finally reset, and is working in 80
channel mode again. Conclusion drawn is that the cracked solder pads lost its audio out in the first place. It took me
several weeks to get around to looking at it after taking it out of the van, and this extended lack of power (as before)
seems to have caused it to lock up.

Anyway, muchos thanks for the pointer, very much appreciated.

P.S. Also seem to have lost 3 of the 6 backlight LED's, but thats the least of my worries.....!
